It matters to me because I used to be proud of my uni. Nice campus, fun, but also a place to study in safety. Now that it has been overrun by politicians, I am no longer proud. Neither are my black colleagues. They worry that their hard-earned degrees will be reduced to junk status the way everything else has.

Why would "their" degrees be reduced to junk retrospectively? A degree isn't renewed over a period, it is conferred once off

I agree but after the only civilized ANC comrade in Mandela with his dream of a rainbow nation absconded his throne and entrusted it to the criminal, greedy and corrupt vultures residing in the ANC the dream shattered and as we now see in the 2016 ANC election campaign the rainbow they created is black and white in colour.

We have given up everything already. The only thing we will never give up is our language and our heritage/culture. No one is asking anyone to be sensitive here even more so the Pedi people. Why not include Pedi at the same level as Afrikaans/English/Zulu/Xhosa and the likes. Why should one be removed just because... Build up languages not remove them.

You are proving the point about being overly sensitive. No one is asking you to "give up" you language. Afrikaans shouldn't be a more special language than others. Simple.

Nobody is asking you to give up your language, heritage or culture.

From what I know its the university that demoted Afrikaans.

UP: From now on Afrikaans and Sepedi will only be in tutorials.

In Pretoria (and the Western Cape), Afrikaans is spoken by significantly more people than English. That lowers the barrier to education for the majority of people, which everyone in this thread should hopefully agree is a good thing. However not everyone speaks Afrikaans, and thus steps should be taken to accommodate everyone within reason. This means using interpreters.

The other solution is to basically ditch all languages besides English for all education. Then there would be no reason to have an Afrikaans university.
 
So even after UP released a statement that Afrikaans lectures would be done away with, the protesters still proceeded to disrupt lectures.
