Upcoming Games

I don't get why drama queens once again have issues with how a character looks. Sci-fi movies have always had "ugly" women, tomboys, lesbians, weirdos etc etc, so why now the fake outrage these days with characters like that in games?

Why do nerds only want to see supermodels in games? Makes no sense. Should a space bounty hunter look and dress like a beauty queen? Bunch of karens lol.
Because they're reactionary losers who think only games that reflect their adolescent fantasies are legitimate.

Hope it's a 2026 release and not later.

You know how those dislike add-ons work right? Anyone that uses it as a basis for an argument does so on wildly inaccurate data. Paul Tassi proved it long ago by showing the difference between his actual YT dashboard and what the add-ons showed, I thought people knew this.

This is ND, one of the most praised and prestigious studios out there, no doubt this game is going to be amazing. Plus that's an actual actress, who's in a lot of stuff. Seems people just want to be outraged again for no reason
I must admit, I don't know how it works, I am completely ignorant on that topic but I wasn't presenting an argument against the game. I am definitely gonna buy the game play it and no doubt enjoy it, because its ND.

I don't like the bald character in the game but that's just my preference, I have no issue the actress just as I had no issue with Laura Bailey. The backlash she got for the whole Abby debacle was disgusting and pretty pathectic, even receiving death threats from fans is kind low.

Not just sci-fi, they have an issue with older Ciri as well, The Witcher 4 getting some some hate as well over how old Ciri looks in the upcoming game.

Yes I know. And Dragon Age, Avowed, Baldurs Gate 3 had whiners, Cyberpunk, Star Wars Outlaws, Horizon Forbidden West, Fable 4 (that one I agree is butt ugly though lol) etc etc etc.

Really annoying.

Meanwhile you get ugly male characters in games like GTAV and no one cares.

Ghost of Yōtei and GTAVI as well. Come to think of it, these goons are not gonna have many games to play by the look of things.

The TLOU2 outrage was some crazy ****, probably makes this looks like child's play honestly

We will speak with our wallets, go woke go broke, that's my take on Naughty dogs new upcoming game. If you are a fan boy of naughty dog who buys anything they release, good for you but some of us gamers are tired on this dei being shoved in video games. Calling gamers names like "karens" will not convince us to buy the game. There are upcoming games that are alternatives, like Phantom Blade 0, where winds meet, wuchang fallen feathers etc, those will get my money. To each's own I guess.

How in your opinion should the ideal bounty hunter in space look like? Long blond hair, lots of makeup, big boobs, pink frilly dress, tiara, high heels?

So the Alien movies were a bunch of woke crap. Got it.

Look I've been very vocal about wokeness in games, but I don't believe this is it. At least from what we've seen. The character seems to fit perfectly fine for the theme of the game.

Until we know and see more, it's too soon to say whether it's woke or not. Let alone making decisions about writing ND off...

Let's be clear though, the character's look is a deliberate choice, now did they have to make it deliberately unattractive? No.

So why did they choose to do that....well the only explanation is to appease a certain demographic that has an agenda. An agenda that doesn't belong in gaming entertainment. Gaming is a leisure activity, it's sole purpose is to entertain. Part of that entertainment is suspension of belief and escape from reality. You can't do that successfully if you're constantly reminded of real world issues. It is also an aspirational activity, most people would like to play a character that they believe is the ideal version of themselves, it's fantasy fulfilment.

Unlike the movie industry, where the story is told to you as a passive viewer, gaming's draw is that You are the active character.

While I can somewhat see the need to change the way the world works, I cannot see gaming as the right vehicle to effectively do that.....this is a business, we aren't given games from free, it's a product and continuing to force social narratives into that product reduces its appeal to paying customers. The target audience matters more than a misguided moral crusade.

As for Naughty Dawg, they will either pivot or they will not meet their sales expectations.

I don't understand what demographic has an agenda? And what is that agenda? And you can't suspend your belief and escape from reality if the player character is, bald?

I just watched the trailer, looks pretty cool. I literally do not understand what people are upset about

They modelled the character after the actress who voices her, Tati Gabrielle.

Again, what do you guys expect a bounty hunter to look like? Why can't anyone answer? The character to me looks like a typical bounty hunter type character. Not sure why people are fake outraged.

Not even bounty hunter. Ripley almost singlehandedly defined what women in a space adventure should look like.

ND aren't known for RPGs so it shouldn't have a lot of the relationship/gender stuff in it...

I don't have an issue with ugly women and ugly men in games. Never have. As long as it fits with the theme of the game. If people get their jollies up from scantily clad women with huge tits then there's Stellar Blade.

The issue I have is pushing social narratives from the real world into games to further an agenda. Games should have their own worlds, with their own social norms that are divorced from the real world. Even if it means that you encounter racists or homophobes. It's called world building. From what we've seen, this doesn't seem to be any of that...

Why don't we have ugly leads in commercially successful movies?..... because commercial movies cater to the majority and that majority don't want to be reminded of how "unattractive" they are. Even the more "masculine" female leads are objectively attractive, Florence Pugh is still hot.

In games It has fairly little to do with how little clothing they have on, it has to do with the fantasy of pretending to be hot or watching a hot "person" do stuff.

There's a reason Margot Robbie is way more famous and a better box office draw than the lead actor in Precious 😁

The gaming industry needs stop pretending to not know what sells, stop the performative, condescending crap and get back to reality.

While I think its dumb to completely write off a game before you have even had the chance to play it, the fact that there is such a large negative response to this trailer just because the main character is not attractive says to me that there are very real issues people have been having with DEI and such in video games for a long, long time and that has only escalated to the point where we now have this.

My personal opinion, and Ill be honest about it - I want to play has a attractive person in a video game lol, its escapism - I ain't no 10/10, why would I want to play as a 6/10 when I live that **** every day. But I'm not gonna bitch and moan about it, I'm just not gonna spend my money on it. And honestly, I feel I am in the major majority of this argument - the numbers do not lie

As for "its to represent real woman" : If you were complimenting a woman, would she be happier to hear that she looks like Miss. Intergalactic, or that she looks like Lara Croft?
