Update your mobile software over the Internet

Not very new

This is only new news to Nokia users. Sony Ericsson users have been able to update at home using Sony Ericsson Update Suite for years. It's easy I've used it already to update my SE K750i's firmware. You can even set-up most sony ericsson's to update themselves over GPRS/etc.

This is crap...

The worst mistake I made in my life was choosing a (Vodafone branded) Nokia N70.

Ever since I got it it freezes and changes ringtones all by itself... (and no, it's not mixed up profiles settings) This problem is widely publicised over the net...

I took it to Vodacare to get a software upgrade but guess what!? They re-installed the same version 2.### ...
Needless to say, the same problems are still present...

I thought wow, now I can update it myself with Nokia's wonderful updater!!!

I had to restore to factory settings to get the updater to work though...

It's updating now... 9 min and 33MB later and it's only 3quaters of the way...

Make sure you have cyber-gold (bandwith) available! :-)

Updating N70 now. Will see if my phone stops getting jittery after prolonged use with the fix.

Hope so! :)

My (Vodafone branded) 6680 has V4.04. I know that there is a newer version for the 6680 (V5... rumors of a V6) but alas when I tried to update it said I already have the latest version... Hmmm... Odd that. Wonder if it has anything to do with the vodafone branding...

I ran the update on my N70. After downloading the 44MB update it told me there was a problem, so I disconnected my phone. The version is still the same, but it now tells me my phone is up to date. It still runs v2.*.*.* ???

What now?

I also tried to update, and it hanged. I could press ESCAPE eventually (didn't want to unplug or END TASK) and was informed that the upgrade has been cancelled. This happened while it was downloading, and stood still for ages.

Now, no matter what I do, when I plug the phone in, Windows pics up a new modem, then says it's a Nokia N70 USB modem, but after trying to install, it informs me a section is missing in the INF file. I have uninstalled the software from Windows, have used Nokia's cleaning software, even removed all references to Nokia and PCSuite from the registry, but no luck. the internet connection work fine on the phone, but through PC Suite it doesn't.

On my other computer I am informed "Nokia N70 is in non-compatible mode. Please change on the UI". And again, no modem.

Anyone? I have been unable to use the modem for the last few days.

I upgraded my Nokia 6680 from MTN from

V 3.04.37 01-06-05 RM-36

to

V 4.04.07 22-08-05 RM-36 NOKIA 6680.

Did it via dialup. Took forever. Had to uninstall Nokia PC Suite & now after re-installing it to restore my backup, my phone wouldn't connect. Will have to try again tonight. At least I had my Contacts on my MMC.

Updated from V3 to V5 Nokia 6680 last night. Worked fine.. took about 10minutes (excluding time to backup data)

From September 1st onwards, the owners of Nokia N71, Nokia N73, Nokia N80, Nokia N90, Nokia N91, Nokia N92, and Nokia N93 can also enjoy the ease of updating their software themselves.
Yet the website hasn't been updated yet :(

!!!!!!!!HELP!!!!!!!!, I tried updating my bro's phone Nokia N70, I connected the phone, downloaded updates, then while updating it said "Updating Failed", I checked the phone and saw that it froze, I then click try again, it went about 3/4 way & then said failed, so I cancelled the update. I then took out the battery because I couldn't resart the phone (frozen) I then tried switching it on again but it doesn't want to go on. If anyone knows whats wrong please help. The phone is only about a month & a half old. It's on MTN with mtnsp.

i have also purchased a new Nokia 5230. it does not come with any CD- so i used a friends old Nokia 6210 Navigator CD- but the problem is that the prog is not detecting my phone- i have WinXP with SP3. Windows detects my phone but it does not have the drivers for it.i think that could be the problem. the version of Nokia PC Suite may be too old(6.86.8.6). software version on my phone is V.12.0.089
what should i do?

the other problem is that im one of the few guys on MyBB who does NOT have ADSL & i still use dial-up! so i just cant afford to download the latest version of PC Suite or even better OVI suite. updating software/firmware via my HSDPA connection on my phone is also too expensive.

please don't necro ancient threads - rather start a new one.
anyways, find a nokia care centre close to you. they should be able to help you out.
phone the care line to help you find the closest care centre: 0861166542.

Wonder if it has anything to do with the vodafone branding...

The Vodafone branding is often a problem - VF is too lazy to incorporate the firmware changes into a new release.

I've had to change the model number on a N73 and a N78 to get past this.

Recently I bought an E72 from Singapore, no more Vodafone problems - the problems VF causes makes the warranty worthless.

Try doing it from an internet cafe or a friend's house.
