Upgrade from 8 to 7 possible?

I have asked a few PC dealers and they told me that they can't provide 7 any longer. ComX's online still has it but Ultimate 64 is more than R2k!

I've been using various distros of Linux alongside XP SP3 and 7 Ultimate. I use LibreOffice on both Windows and Linux. Haven't seen MS Office 2013 yet. The only part of Libre that I find just a tad below par is Impress, its PowerPoint equal.

Why not just get the lappie that you want and have Linux at hand ready to go. Then on first boot 1) Install ClassicShell 2) Set default programs. Total effort estimate: 3 minutes. Play around and if you still have nerd rage then pop that Linux media in. Either way you are spending R0 extra
 
$5 utilities/apps to make a multi-billion dollar OS work. :D

Windows 7 makes me happy. Hey, I'm using it now! ;)

thing is, I order the lappy from ComX with no OS - really cheap. 7 ultimate adds R2050 to the price. Then MS Office another R2k if I want PowerPoint. If there is something else Windows does better than Linux, I may justify the expense, otherwise Linux it will be.

You can downgrade it to windows 7, but why stop there? Downgrade to XP.. its super stable :)

In that case, considering the needs it will be fulfilling, then Linux is the obvious choice

Running any additional apps or widgets on your phone? So Microsoft's vision for Metro tanked; big whoop. It's something I can fix in 3 minutes with zero cost, so I honestly don't give a flying ****.
 
And I almost choked on my zol - even though I don't smoke. Going back to XP? That settles it - Linux it will be.

Noooh, Gnome 3 has no start button as well. Apparently some people become dysfunctional if they dont have a start button. Linux Gnome3 is not for those people :D

I run 4 different OS`s daily... and none of them have a start button. Oh well.

Windows 8 works 100%, i love windows 8 and the tile system. Prefer to actually. My sister just bought a touch screen acer i7 laptop with windows 8, all i can say is mind blowing.

I need office functionality to get work done. And I need the traditional way to work with multiple windows, or then multiple desktops.

Windows 8 can be mind-blowing but it is not aimed at getting work done. It is only impressive if one's a teen with half a brain.

Which is why Gnome 3 users had no problem with Win 8 when it was released :D

Needless to say though the uproar in the Linux community when Gnome 3 appeared was on a par with the current Win 8 debate :whistle:

The downgrade process
Follow these steps to downgrade to a previous version of Windows software:

Type the product key.

Depends on the version. Not all had full downgrade rights either.
For example you could not go Windows 7 Home edition to Windows XP Professional or Home
or from Windows XP Home to Windows 2000 (XP Home could only go down to Windows 98/ME).

I know people naturally presumed they had full downgrade rights on all versions, but they did not. Windows 8 & 7 does change in the fact that only Windows Pro versions are down-gradable.
