Upgrade from 8 to 7 possible?

Windows users can also benefit from TrueCrypt which is a Linux service as far as I know and it can also be set to load before Windows. I have used it within XP, though, to encrypt data folders and also my SD cards and flash drives. Ubuntu 12.10 encrypts your entire installation if you so prefer but you can still encrypt your home folder separately.

I hate windows 8, not sure why they have gone this route, also a b1tch to administrate!

By telephone support - Agreed but remote desktop is key here.

But in a network environment not really, they did a bunch of things that make it a crapload easier example MDOP or even with regard to WDS, MDT and even creating file based imaged for roll-out's, I think 8 is miles ahead of the previous versions, or even other OS's.

Plenty wrong with it, but not what people normally point out. Only reason I am not running it is because of the cut support for older applications (Games) even with compatibility mode some do not work, and some hardware drivers that did not move with the time (Read culled to make space for new things)

I find this debate stimulating and I am learning from you all and I appreciate your combined efforts to educate me.


It seems that the winner may eventually not be defined along cost issues, or security but rather which the best platform is for non-cloud data sync between:

- computer's PIM either Evolution or Outlook

- phone PIM

- tablet PIM

Contacts, calendar, tasks and notes/memos.

Via USV, Blietooth or wireless between devices, NOT via the internet/cloud. (internet connection not constant. Unreloable.)

Me again prefer the cloud based solutions, that is mostly because I do not like being bogged down or limited by the OS/device I use.
For Mail, contacts tasks and notes I use:
Personal = Gmail (Google)
Work = outlook.com (Microsoft)

and all my documents on Box.com(most secure provider)

I can be anywhere and on any device and I can continue work as normal and without interruption. Granted I need internet access for new data, and when I am out of coverage areas, I enough synced to my mobile devices that it doesn't stop me doing my work either.

I only have a cellular connection to begin with and even that is so unreliable that it is more or less useless. Not even Whatsapp or voice calls are going well. And in most places in rural areas, cloud sync is a myth. If only Nokia would revive PC Suite of old: but who wants a Nokia nowadays?

It was the same with windows 7, windows xp and so on, if you move with the time you generally won't be playing old games or using apps that do not support it.

If you do need xp to run your games then dual boot and run xp instead of trying to get it to work in newer os's.

Use whatever works the best, trying to get old software to run on new os's is a mission at times, either use vdi or dual boot.

Can't be that difficult. Do people want xp mode in windows for the next 20 years? At some point xp will go and it's happened.
