As the title states.
I've got an i5 7600k and an Rx 570, would it be better to buy a PS5 to game or spend that same amount on a GPU upgrade like an rtx 3060/3060Ti ?

Why a PS5? Xbox Series X will give you game pass for R150 where you also can get games for the PC for free. At the price of graphics cards at the moment I would rather go console. Remember PS5 games will set you back R1000 each.

Probably console tbh. Your cpu is starting to show its age and GPU are scarce and way overpriced at the moment.

What games do you enjoy though ?

I was in same predicament and bought a console. 2m later I paid big bucks for the gaming PC anyway.

Exclusives and I already have gamepass on PC

I enjoy single player games.

I think i might just get the PS5 now and upgrade my system towards the end of the year though

I did exactly this. Built up a brand new gaming PC and am planning to get a PS5 down the line. I have my eye on the exclusives that are some away down the line. Series X is too much of an overlap with PC.

Okay, honestly none of the Sony exclusives tickle my fancy, oh look it's a remaster again of the same game that we got and a Spiderman game.
Series X at least you've got a ton of all the previous gen libraries to play as well, with game pass you've got 100s of games to try out for free, now with Bethesda as part of their base there is even more.

Was in the exact same boat, just have an i5 + Nividia 1060

Opted to go Series S + 3 Years of GamePass Ultimate (Using the Upgrade special) instead. Reason for this was:
A) if I don't like Console gaming I would at least have wasted 6K instead of 12K.
B) console games cost waaay more than PC games. At least with GamePass I have something to play.

My plan was that if I liked console gaming was to buy a PS5 internationally and import as SA prices are way to high (Example PS5 DE $399 USD = R5971). Problem with that is availability.

Well I eventually got a PS5... just the import part is now a problem (Covid) with the lack of international travel and friends/family not traveling, I have to use DHL and that cost way more than I am willing to pay. SO I'll wait for now happily jamming on my Series S.

Dude have you every logged onto steam? For example EA play is just R9.99 pm. Just as an example if it’s cost that is your motivating factor. Saying they are all remasters wouldn’t make Sony wouldn’t be the leading console both here and overseas if that was the case.

Oh I have logged on to steam of course. There are a lot of fanboys same as Apple ;-)

And fanboys same as Gamepass. Bottom line is there is too much overlap with series x and a pc.
There might be, but the difference is, in order to get the same graphical quality on a PC at this point in time you'd need to spend 14k for the GFX card alone, while the console is 12k.

EA Play is part of GamePass :p

Just saying. Oh and for people that say PC/Xbox overlap, same can be said for Sony & PC now that more and more Sony games get pushed onto PC as well :p

Apparently they also looking at adding Uplay Connect into the bundle.

Edit: Oh and to answer OP's Question. I would say go console (Doesn't matter which one you pick) FX cards are way over priced at the moment, at least Console makers take some of the knock as they selling below cost. Can always buy an FX card later when market improved.

We are talking platform exclusives. Microsoft treats Xbox and pc as the same. Sony is exclusive to the platform. Sure buy a pc and a series x if you got cash to throw around for titles that are going to appear on both.

Then definitely PS5.
The exclusives are amazing if you like story driven games.

Your RX570 will still allow you to play most of the PC games, even if it is with reduced settings.
Xbox won't give you any more games to play than you can now.

Not really
Also look at GamePass as an example. Load of PC games not on Xbox and loads of Xbox Games not on PC.

I know their plan is to make it platform independent with Xcloud and such, but we not there yet.

Platform wars aside, my motto is "why not both?". Logic best economical combo to have right now in my view is:
PS5 + Xbox Series S
or Xbox Series X + PS4 plus

Story driven games? You mean the Last of us series, where you get to play as an angry lesbian who wants to avenge her daddy figure? Or Spider-man Miles Morales, what's story driven in that? Or Demon souls remaster? Or God of War?
Please besides the David Cage games what are the story driven games from Sony? Yes they are pretty and they are different from the Xbox ones, but what with Microsoft now owning Bethesda and snapping up more and more studios, Sony is going to end up like Nintendo where you will get some great exclusives, but that's it. Third party will always run better on Xbox. So yeah go for those exclusives, but remember you're going to be getting a sub-par third party experience.
But I think after the snore-fest of Last of Us and the same same of God of War I was like I'm done with Sony. Especially with their plan on BC being hey you want to play that PS3 game again, why not buy it again. But with my Xbox, I can play games I bought with my 360 way back in 2005 if I wanted to.

Lets not start that debate Fking Sony that force me to buy Red dead, Mass effect and whatnot again, because even if I own digital copy's of said games on PlayStation store I have to buy them for PS4/5 if I want to play them on new hardware.

F Sony... seriously :(

Microsoft on the other hand not only allow me to play AC 3 & AC Revelation again... They gave me free versions of the remastered editions as well.
