Blackberry Bold 9700
iPhone 4-dunno what the pay in might be
Any new Nokia's out?

average budget of R500 pm all inclusive.

What are you upgrading from? My dad has a Blackberry Bold 9700. It's obviously a quality phone, well build and everything - but I just don't like the software. The email works very well though.

I would take the iPhone 4 :D

EDIT: Is the iPhone 4 already available is SA?

My uncle can't even get snake to run properly on that POS, and you wanna run android?

No lol i wanna wipe Symbian off it and use android as my OS. But dont wanna have to write drivers etc.. LOL

If e-mail and lots of free browsing on your phone is what you keen on take the BB.

For a great user experience, either iPhone or something with Android - probably HTC Desire

iPhone 4. By far the best phone out (at the moment). The Droid X looks like it might compete, but hasn't been released yet

The iPhone 4 has got a serious hardware problem that cant be fixed with a software update. STAY AWAY.

I would also suggest the HTC Desire.

Does anybody know of any Vodacom outlets in Pta that has the HTC Desire in stock? I ordered one, but cannot wait any more.

The iPhone 4 isnt as bad as all that it - it will work properly as long as you dont actually try and hold it :P

I second the desire, it will be a fair bit cheaper than the iPhone 4 too. If you dont mind waiting, the Samsung Galaxy S also looks pretty good

Upgrading from Nokia N95. Actually I should have upgraded like 4 months ago. I just was not aware. So I am in no rush to upgrade anyway. According to an MTN salesman the iPhone 4 should be released in about a months time. My wife just got the 9700 Pearl White. Looks the business.

I get my email sent to my phone via exchange. Synchs like every 4 hours so the cost is a few rands a month. I only browse like once or twice a day i.e. facebook, gmail.

From a recent review I read I am sure it said it was a software problem which is sorted out by an update. What exactly is the hardware problem?

So I must check out the Desire and Galaxy S to compare. Thanks for the inputs so far.

The antennae.

The Desire is available now, not sure when the Galaxy S will be released in South Africa. Hopefully soon. Some forumites have ordered the Galaxy from overseas. ;)

From what I read, the meter which shows the bars was not calibrated properly. The reception is not really an issue, it's just the display. I will check the review again and post it.

The software problem is kind-of related to the antenna problem, but they are not the same thing. Touching the phone in the bottom left corner causes the signal strength to drop quite significantly, often to 0/1 bars. Apple is going to change the algorithm that displays signal strength, to make it more 'accurate' - the phone will display more bars at the same signal strength. But that doesn't actually stop the signal strength from dropping, it just makes the drop look less scary.
