I reset my PC so it downgraded from Windows 8.1 to 8.
The PC came installed with Windows 8. I'm trying to upgrade to 8.1 but Windows Store is not working.

This webpage https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/15288/windows-8-update-to-windows-8-1 states:

" Beginning in July 2019, the Windows 8 Store is officially closed. While you can no longer install or update applications from the Windows 8 Store, you can continue using those already installed. However, since Windows 8 has been out of support since January 2016, we encourage you to update to Windows 8.1 for free. "

It directs me to this page https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8ISO for the download:
It wants a Product Key. My Windows 8 product key is not accepted.
I usually upgrade through the Store and no Product Key is required.

How do I upgrade to Windows 8.1?

If it's an active windows 8 licence you can upgrade to windows 10

Just read those links from this very forum I gave you. There's wells of information in them on this very subject

I guess this is all I need:

Here's how to get Windows 10 for free, if you're currently running a licensed and activated copy of Windows 7, Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 Home or Pro:

1. Go to the Download Windows 10 website.

2. Under Create Windows 10 installation media, click Download tool now and Run.

3. Choose Upgrade this PC now, assuming this is the only PC you're upgrading. (If you're upgrading a different machine, choose Create installation media for another PC, and save the installation files.)

4. Follow the prompts.

5. When the upgrade is complete, go to Settings Update & Security > Activation, and you should see a digital license for Windows 10.

Correct. Looks like they've taken the creation tool away, in which case you'd just download the iso, mount it and run the update

Have upgraded probably in the region of 100+ machines this way.
Just remember the upgrade needs to happen within windows 8, Do not, and i repeat do not restart the computer and boot from the Windows 10 DVD/USB and do the installation from there. This wont work and your HD will get wiped.

Thanks. It worked. I feel like an idiot still using Windows 8.1 all these years.
We all learn through the school of 'hard knocks'. Me more than most :X3: - pleased to hear that you are sorted :)

On Friday I discovered how to load Windows to a PC without an optical drive. Yesterday, I discovered how to enable a secondary HDD on a brand new machine. Thank the good Lord for Google and others who tolerate my ignorance :)

I used the tool on Sunday - just searched for Media Creation Tool, and went to the result.

Cool, good to know thanks.

I just clicked on the link and it took me to the iso selection, didn't dig any further than that

Welcome to being the product and not being the client.
