Upgrade.

Ye, obviously the specs that he gave will be a bit faster, but he said his budget is tight and I would then be looking at these pasts, cause the AMD 6000 isn't that slow and I know I struggled to get a C2D for that price with decent performance.

Aaahhh, wait, just remembered, he has a socket 939 mobo, so the 6000+ won't work on it. My argument was that he already had the mobo, but obviously he will need another mobo for the 6000+ as well.

Brawler, go with the specs you have. If you can find the R500 somewhere, I would go for the ATI 4850.

Yup. The whole 939 thing sucks.

Might just get a 4850 now and upgrade the rest properly at a later stage.

Will work, but you CPU will then be your biggest bottleneck with crysis. Also keep in mind the power requirements for the 4850.

Right. PC needs upgrading.

Currently Athlon X2 3800+ s939, 2gb corsair ddr1, 8600GT, Gigabyte k8n-sli, 320gb sata, dvdrw sata, Aopen 400W, Thermaltake case

Would like to play most new games, ie COD w@w 1680x1050

Budget: tight

Heres what I have come up with so far:

-Intel Pentium E5200 - Dual Core 2.5GHz R1041 @landmark
-GIGABYTE® "S Series" G31 & ICH7 Express Chipset - Socket LGA775 R780 @ Prophecy (In my experience not worth buying top end board unless overclocking or have extreme hardware)
-Corsair TWIN2X2048-6400 - XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 R600 @ landmark
-Inno3D 9800GT 512MB nVidia GeForce 9800GT GPU R1750 @ landmark (would prefer 4850, but its quite a bit more $ atm)

Any thoughts/suggestions?

The 4850 is 2.1k at prophecy
