The control unit on my upright Bosch freezer blew this week. I'm still waiting for quotes for a replacement panel.

I recently had solar installed and I've noticed a big difference in our energy consumption. The freezer was about about 9 years old.

Am I better off replacing it with a chest freezer? How much more efficient are they? A 200l Defy chest freezer may be a better option that the repair.

Chest freezers work well but the schlep is looking for stuff as you have to unpack it.

They actually make chest freezers than you can hook up to solar panels now. I can’t remember which brand it was.

I've just done that, the 200l defy is far far better. I've gone from sitting at 500w average on my inverter to 300w when both the fridge and freezer is running
The chest freezer also runs a lot less.

Thankyou.

My in law's chest /deep freezer is running ALL THE TIME.

It's also a 100 years old.

Don't be like my in laws.
I had an old one that used to do that, my double door fridge also. The two new ones are a helluva lot better
