Please settle a domestic altercation.
You get mini UPS that output low voltage DC. Then there are the 'big' UPS that have a 230 volt DC. The big UPS can keep the fibre and wifi modems running. Right? They are not only intended for powering down a pc. You could even boil water in a kettle.
My wife's mind is stuck on 'inverter' at the moment.

What is the question?
You get a mini UPS yes, or rather a 5/9/12V etc DC to DC UPS, and then a conventional UPS that outputs 230V. The conventional UPS that powers your PC (and usually never a kettle!) is in turn just a mini UPS when compared to a conventional inverter.
 
Sorry. Ca. You use the big UPS to power wifi in loadshedding. She says only the mini ups can be used

You rather use the mini UPS for a router, as it is more efficient. Full stop.
My Gizzu mini DC-to-DC UPS cost about the same as my conventional UPS, but powers my internet for 4+++ hours without batting an eyelid. Cannot say the same for my conventional UPS - it has too much overhead.

But in the end, you can use an inverter, ups or mini ups to power your router.

Problem with using a full sized UPS is that you doing this:

AC > DC (Batteries) > AC > DC (Router's PSU)

Where as with the mini UPS like the Netogy UPS100 you got this:

AC > DC (Batteries) > DC (Router)

You get losses when converting from AC to DC and then to AC again only to have the router PSU convert it to DC.
