Teenagers then and today know exactly as much as they need or (more importantly) want to know.

Teenagers still know relatively the same as they did back then.

Wrong - we had less to worry about (no HIV in the 70s)
and "free love" was all the rage (still a throw back from the 60s and the emancipation of women by the pill). We were also having sex at 16. I do admit we didn't know much about "alternative sex" (anal was reserved for gay men) but we just as active as today's teens.

Although the Austrian age of consent is basically 14, it is illegal to have sex with someone under 16 by "exploiting their lack of maturity".

i had to laugh at some of the comments from some of the people. yeah, justify it anyway you want, as long as you sleep sound at night without feeling guilty.

The age of consent (SA) is 16 , it is at that age , as it is considered to be the age where the girl or boy is able to deal with it emotionally, the larger majority of that age group can and will deal with it very well, although there will always be a small minority of 16 year olds who wont.

Granted there was no HIV as we know it, but there were certanly other STD's running around in those days, and not taking precautions against them was just as foolish as today.

From reading this thread, i must admit i am rather surprised at the prudishness and conservatism shown by so many of the posters, not to mention the rather outdated attitudes towards teenage sex.

Sexual experimentation, is what being a teenager is all about, it is the age when we as humans go through our biggest change physically and emotionally in life, and if teenagers are surrounded by prudish ideas of their sexuality, they will develop the same prudish attitudes, which in the long run could quite easily lead to unfulfilled relationships, emotional scarring, and deviant behaviour as adults in the future.

Again the stats speak for themselves as teenage pregnancies and even suicide rates are now higher than ever.... Yes I can see how the youth are handeling it better with all their knowledge :rolleyes:

I think we can do with a bit more of both prudishness and conservatism, perhaps this country and its children won’t be going downhill quite as fast. Besides it’s a personal preference issue, and up to individual parents what they would allow or not.

I think teenage pregnancies are at much the same level, just less hushed up.

Suicide is due to other increased pressures from the modern world (often parents wanting thier kids to perform or bullying thats not being addressed), not sex.

Never said its because of sex, it was meant to show how mature kids are these days and how well the can cope (:rolleyes:)with all the info and early experiences :)

Your daughter will see him behind your back. If they're not already having sex, they definitely will now. You've just made the whole thing a hell of a lot more tempting and exciting for her. Boys punch or wrestle their fathers at 16; girls do this sort of thing.

I think it's bad at that age (16-18 girl going out with 20+ guy) as then what are the 16-18 year old guys supposed to do? I am in no way attracted to anyone younger than me.
 
i have to agree with pooky, i'm 19 and i couldnt even see myself with a 16 year old, i would feel ashamed for that and i would not know how to tell my parents. So this will not happen. On the other hand, my pal whose name should not be said, started having something with this 16 year old, she isnt a virgin anymore, smokes about a pack of sigies a day and cheats on her boyfriend, who in fact, is my pals brother.
 
Agree with both Pooky and thedutchman. If anybody in my circle of friends were dating a 16 year old he would get enormous amounts of flack and we probably wouldn't want to hang out with him and his little friend.

I myself am almost 26 and I find the idea almost repulsive. To me a 16 year old girl is a little girl and I could gain absolutely nothing from dating one. Like dutchman said, I'd feel ashamed and wouldn't feel comfortable taking her to any kind of family gathering.

Ok so what would you then suggest parents do? By condoms and sit back, or perhaps pawn of their children to wealthy adults?
 
I agree with everyone who has said that they wouldn't date a 16-year-old. I'm nearly 19, and I definitely would not date a 16-year-old. The idea is just too :sick:. I can't imagine why Gdiza, being 25, would even think of dating a 16 year old girl. That's just wrong dude.
