Urgent R20k PC Build Advice Please !

So my mate wants to Build up a PC for +-R20k and he already has Monitor, Keyboard and mouse just needs the obvious other components. He wants to run a dual OS with Mac as the primary and then obviously windows for gaming which is the main purpose of this computer. So the components need to be compatible with a Mac install hoping someone has experience with this. Parts we were looking at are as follows;

GIGABYTE 970 G1 GAMING 4GB GDDR5
INTEL CORE I5 4690K 3.5GHZ SKT 1150
CRUCIAL BALLISTIX 1866MHZ 8GBX1
SEAGATE 3TB 3.5 SATA 6GB/S 7200RPM
CORSAIR GRAPHITE 600T ATX CASE BLACK
CM 850W VANGUARD MODULAR

Any thought or suggestions ? Also, with regards to newer platforms and releases such as DDR4 or any new parts about to be launched that would make this build a bad option ?
 
R20k excluding peripherals is pretty much enthusiast level.

1) Don't need a 850w PSU to run that setup unless you plan to SLI.
2) Would add an SSD TBH, even a small 120gb SSD will benefit you, but I recommend grabbing a 500gb MX100 for R2000 floating around on all these websites lately.
3) Consider an OEM i7 CPU - will cost about R2500-R2900. Make sure it comes with a warranty though.

600T is a decent case, will be relatively easy to work in.

DDR4 - will be a while before it becomes the standard tbh.

You omitted a mobo.
 
TIP: Rather get 1x500GB and 1x2TB, you wouldnt want to lose all your data at once.

With R 20k excluding peripherals like screen and the likes you can build a Monster. Will you be over clocking or just want a mean arse machine? For R 20k I would change almost everything on there for the better :p

agree with 217

go got a quality psu brand corsair/antec those guys
try to get a 256gb ssd,nice middle 120gb bit small if u want to put a game like gta5 on it also

and definitely got for the OEM i7,gtr computers sell them the 3770 and 4790k for under 3k,

case what ever u like :)

dont bother with 1866ram unless u can get it for the same price as 1600,but id say go with 16gb 1600,

the 970 is a great card,

lets see
cpu 3k
psu 1k
case 1k
mobo 1.5k
ram 1k
ssd 1.5k

just to get around numbers
that 9k+1k for extra flexibility

so leaves u around 10k got graphics cards
and SLI 970's if u can get them for under 5k,sometimes wootwere have them on special or gtx gaming have some under 5k


edit: just rememberd
i got the the HDD and cpu cooler,so 2nd gtx 970 is out

thats another about 2to3k down,getting a closed loop + decent size hdd

leaves u with 2k to play around with (unless theres something i forgot to list again)

the sli would of been nice:/

Cut and trim a bit on this by shopping for cheaper parts and it could fit in your budget:

The only item on your list that should be changed is the motherboard. Gigabyte and Asus are the preferred choices if you don't want to struggle with kext issues.

1800 i know its alot but its a great deal or can just use one for 8gb add anotherone later ,goes agenst what i said about the speed but looking at the other ram prices its good

the rest use for a cpu cooler+other random things

u can cut down on the ram by 800 if u get get 8gb
another 500 on the motherboard(then u need diffrent ram)
so -1200 if u want to

the 980 cost alot and when u get a good 970+cooler you can oc to almost a 980,for almost half the price

The thing is, DDR3 has been around for SO long now - which means DDR4 will be the standard for a long period of time aswell. And to spend R20k on a PC that isnt going to be "future-proof" (LOL) is something to consider ?

SLI is always an option in a year or two's time when the price of a 970 comes down can pick one up second hand and pop it in there :D

Any thoughts on the new R9 300 series as an alternative to the 970 ? Issues come in with stock availability and pricing because the card got released yesterday or something ? How long before it becomes available in SA
