And he appeared to warn he would try to force open state economies, including shops, schools and restaurants closed by governors and mayors. He did not explain, either, how he would convince the public to get back to normal if people did not feel confident they were safe.

Gee, maybe I dunno people need to work to pay their bills?

In every single country with these stupid locksdowns, they need the police and army to force people to stay inside.

I never said they won't take a knock. What is killing them at the moment though is the government forcing them to stay closed.

I dunno where in the US you've spent some time in, but I've spent a few months there in different cities attempting to use the public transport. Every trip, it took me less than a week to realise that you're ****ed without a car.

Things tend to be spread out, and outside of city centres, the public transport is totally schit and inadequate. The prices of cars, and petrol is cheap....and so it's almost a given that people would make a vehicle one of their first purchases.

Being poor, and owning a car is not mutually exclusive

Doesn't diminish the fact that what is considered poor in the US would be considered lower middle class in South Africa.

And given there is a pandemic at the moment that spreads in public areas, people using their cars instead of public transport is probably better.

That is the reasonable approch.

The government approach is to make it illegal to build tall buildings.

Or to use your work as an example, it would be to do what ze Germans did and start shutting down all nuclear power stations because of the tiny probability of a Chernobyl or Fukushima.
