Today I learned that to want people to follow the legal immigration process is xenophobic. Who knew?

Of course it is xenophobic. We all know illegal immigrants are superior human beings who cannot possibly be bound by earthly laws like immigration laws, (but are still entitled to all those gibs-me-dats)

Asylum != illegal immigration.
You can apply for asylum without being an illegal immigrant.

And you are going to have to stretch that definition when you apply it to every single person coming from Mexico.

Trump announced that he was going to stop ALL immigration- which he then backed down on. It’s not just illegal immigration that he’s trying to crack down on, he’s simply demonizing foreigners

Trump has one strategy and he uses whatever tools he has available to accomplish it. It’s the same thing
 
Senate Democrats on Wednesday unveiled a bill to federalize the medical supply chain and increase the production of needed items like protective equipment for health workers and testing supplies.

The legislation would establish a new Executive Officer to oversee the production of supplies and who would issue reports every week on the supplies that are needed in the fight against coronavirus. The officer would then be required to issue purchase orders under the Defense Production Act for those needed supplies and oversee their distribution.

The stupidity of this bill really is a new level. The thing that markets do really well is establish robust supply chains and distribute goods based on the needs of clients. If the government thinks that more production is needed of certain supplies then there is already a much easier, more reliable and less corrupt way of doing it. If PPE costs X on the market, then simply issue a tender stating that you need Y amount of PPE by Z date and the government will pay X+ some %. Everyone who is in the manufacturing of these masks will then be incentivised to increase production.

But no, the government knows more than combined and accumulated knowledge of the millions of people involved in making this happen right now.:rolleyes:
