I live in South Africa man. I see people everyday who would kill for work, any work. Plus, if no one wants to work for less than minimum wage, there wouldn't be a need for a minimum wage law.

Don't you mean what if they are compelled to work for less than minimum wage to delay death from starvation and expose just a little bit longer.

I think of you asked them, "willing" would not be their choice of word to describe their position.

Didn't you hear all the real life stories when people here worked for 1 cent a year and how they waddled through knee deep snow in the morning and shoulder high mud in the evening and now they are billionaires by extreme hard work and supremely skilled?

It may not be what you meant but it's the reality. Anyone working for less than minimum wage is making a choice to be exploited so they can avoid starvation. It's not exactly willingness in the sense that you mean where buyers have options because they have no options.

Apply that to South Africa where we have huge structural unemployment. You might think that it is exploitation but if you were an entrepreneur struggling to get your business going, labour is going to be your biggest expense and your perspective is going to be much different.

I'd also like to add that we need more entrepreneurs. Ideally, I think we want the same thing - a living wage for all. I just think that the free market can solve this problem better than government can. Also, we live in cancel culture. I can only speak for myself but I won't support a company with exploitative business practices.

I am against taking that choice away from the person selling their labour.

Artificial caps or floors disrupt supply and demand. Demand will adjust accordingly. Simple economics.

That right there, what you just described is exploitation. We totally agree with you that those people's perspective is different.

Will nobody think of the entrepreneurs? How are they meant to disrupt industries if they can't exploit desperate labour forces?

It is way better to price the bottom half of the labour market out of a job. Roughly 30% in SA that go to sleep hungry, because their skills simply aren't worth R150 or whatever min wage is.
