US protests/riots 2020

Well those business owners can't complain now. They do support the riots and their insurance will just cover it.
Apparently businesses have been putting up BLM signs not because they care but instead so they don't get targeted and burnt down.

Arkansas Sheriff Resigns After He’s Caught On Tape In Racist Tirade
Todd Wright resigned after a local newspaper identified his voice in a recording that went viral earlier this year.

Despite the shocking tape, now-former Arkansas County Sheriff Todd Wright insisted to local legislators that he’s not racist.

Wright apologized at the local meeting “to everyone.” (Check out the video of the meeting above at 15:10.) He said he made the slurs in the heat of the moment when he was “upset over certain things.”

“That’s not [really] me,” he claimed. “People who know me, know that’s not me. I was angry.”
This is what he said....

Wright tells the woman, “Shut up you f***ing n***er lover! … Every motherf**ker in this store and you gotta talk to the f**king (inaudible) n***er. Right there in front of me, like y’all f***ing best buddies. It is a big f***ing deal. People f***ing see me and see you talking to f***ing n***ers.”

Oh no, he said bad words.
Good thing we live in a world where actions speak louder than words.

Wait, no, Leftists have destroyed that...Speech is literal violence now.

Never mind.

On a serious note, has he actually DONE anything racist in his capacity as sheriff?
Elected officials saying stupid sh*t and getting sacked is hardly new... Sheriff is an elected office, do you rally think the local coloured community would be comfortable with someone who stoops to those kinds of insults working within their community?

He is welcome to be as racist as he wants as a private citizen.

Oh I agree, he should be removed if the people don't want him there.

What if he was welcome while holding the position? It's an elected position, right?

That's my point. What if the people wanted him to stay? I'd bet you'd be here complaining and supporting protests demanding he leave.

Also, "coloured" community? Really? LOL.

Just say black.

You're on a South African forum, friend. You know that means other things...?

And more specifically, in this case, he wasn't sacked, he resigned at the request of a Quorum court. He clearly felt is position was untenable after saying those things - probably better this way than him trying to run a re-election campaign with that on his record.

People of color is the preferred term in that states, you clearly knew what I was referring to, are you just looking for reasons to be otherwise?

No I don't. People of colour means all non-white. Do we know it was all non-whites or was it just black people that had the issue...?

What about Indians, did they have an issue?

I have an issue with the term because it's ridiculous. In trying to be PC, it ends being more anti-PC since it tries to group all non-whites together and then bestow a fluffy, feathery name whereas we all know POC means black. It takes power away from all non-black non-white groups.

"Oh POC have an issue with this! Wow, even the Asians, Indians, Arabs?!"
When in reality: "No just black people."

Back to the sheriff. I wonder, did he feel his position was untenable or was there pressure for him to resign? Those are 2 different things.

He had nothing to lose if he just stayed, as you say he would never have won re-election anyway so why not just stay and finish the term?

Most likely he was threatened with a hard opposition for the remainder of his term, so he resigned.

Possibly because he just alienated a good portion of the community that he will have to interact with as part of his job?

Do you think someone who uses terms like that in public should be in a public servant's position where he will have to interact with people who he is prejudiced against?

Am usually quite sympathetic towards people getting fired for saying controversial things but I would have thought that this would be one thing to say that would make the position of an elected official untenable..

Eh, it's weird. I like to distinguish people from what they say and what they do. The ANC for example, I hate because they both say AND do racist things. A good example is Trump. People hate him for what he says, but ignore what he actually does. Yes he might be a POS for what he says, but look at the things he actually does.

I think the sheriff should've stayed if he actually thought that he would do good things and isn't actually a racist. People always say racist or bad shet to people when they're extremely angry. You want to emotionally hurt the other person as much as you can with words. It doesn't mean you're actually a raging racist...

I can understand that, I know people might say things they don't really mean when angry. The difficulty is always going to be proving that, especially to all the people who he just directly insulted by using that term.
