US protests/riots 2020

Bahaha and Kamala Harris raises money to bail out violent criminals arrested during the violent riots of Biden supporters  Is that how Dems condemn violence???

Biden supporters are currently the most violent people in the US. They destroy their own Dem controlled cities and then the Dem mayors and governors blame Trump.

Not that I believe clickbaity subs on pictures. Seems more suited for reddit or twitter, but I find it funny that Alex Salazar is only exposing corruption after leaving the force. Guess he needed income as a activist.

I didn't know about a lot of these so have compiled links to each one for those that are interested..

What Unhappy fails to mention is that police corruption is a Bipartisan problem. No one hates bad cops more than good cops.

Maybe with more funding, better pay & health benefits corruption would decrease.

His post made no mention of right/left, it just showed that police have a way of protecting their own. I agree, good cops hate bad cops but far too often mediocre cops are all about not rocking the boat.

Am not a fan of defunding, but am also not a fan of things like asset forfeitures going to fund police departments. I think some cops in certain departments get paid pretty well, I think reforms in hiring and training as well as real consequences for misconduct would yield better results.

They can make a living yes, especially when they take overtime shifts. This causes burn out and officers are more on edge with makes confrontations worse. I don't think any of us would WANT to see or experience what they do for that amount of money. Take this in comparison to what people like AOC earns and then complains its not enough?

NY has a $6B budget and that may sound extreme until you take into account that they have a staff of almost 60k people. So if you take into consideration the property costs, equipment costs, training costs and then finally, usually the most expensive, cost of salary you do not have enough wiggle room.

To replace police with safety officers or counselors for certain situations like domestic disputes might sound good, but in reality these are usually the most dangerous situation. most would refuse to go without an armed escort. So this adds to the budget requirement.

As you mentioned better training is key, but I estimate that this will increase training cost by 30-50%.

TLDR :

Higher salary, better healthcare especially counseling, more training, add different auxiliary units like social workers.

Agree with all of that, and as you rightly say, better trained and better-qualified cops will cost more money but hopefully it will also attract a better calibre of person to the job. At the moment any gung-ho bully can seemingly get a job in law enforcement in the states, even cops that are fired from one local PD seem to have no problem getting a job down the road in the next town.

This is more than a little scary...

In the U.S., training to be a police officer, and carry a gun on behalf of the state, ranges from as few as 10 weeks to as much as 36 weeks. It's a far cry from the years of education required in most western European countries and others around the world.

It won't directly attract better candidates, but it will increase competition which will then accomplish this. I wish SA did this with education and police as well.

Both parties have recommended reforms for weeding out Cops with charges just going to different departments

Hopefully reforms don't get bogged down by petty differences. Agree with a main bill stopping certain practices and then add amendments with time. Don't understand why they want the perfect bill from the get go. Case and point the stimulus holdups.
