US protests/riots 2020

The point is 'he didn't do it on his own'
Which was exactly my point to begin with..... he does not have the capacity to be responsible for all the ludacrious things he gets accused of. He's a troll that hacked the system nothing more.

Have you led large groups of people who are compelled to adhere to your instructions by virtue of your position?
Does not apply, there is a difference between "should not" and "not allowed to". The former is an advisement and the latter is actually enforceable.

The internet has revolutionised documentation of history. It's all archived somewhere for all to search and read - unedited.
This has been true for the last 1000 years at least. It's all recorded, written down on some obscure documents somewhere.

All the fake news just makes it worse not better.

Some people who think you need the internet for mountains of inane but official garbage should read through a few years of colonial era news papers.....

Written down by whom? Archived where? Accessed through what and by whom?

Trump was a Republican that managed to p*ss off the military. On top of this, his own VP stepped away from him at the end. He was never going to be a dictator.

The rabid mob on the 6th of soccer moms, neckbeards, a viking, conspiracy theorists, looters and odd militia were never going to install a dictatorship on his behalf either, they would've been slaughtered by the military.

this is true. his total sh1ttiness was driven by grift and malice, more than ambition. his self-coupling to the various subsets of militias, conspiracies, and nazis that led to him being the poster-child for the attack on the capitol was 100% opportunistic, just like everything he's done in his career. always has been, Charlottesville, mugging with the flag, racist attacks and sneers. all the same. it's his thing.

it was never with any goal other than to create either support, or confusion, or both, and then try to profit from that. he's literally always been able to walk away from consequences his entire life, so in his mind, there's never a reason not to do what he wants, and evade accountability after. that was a big part of why everyone in his admin hated him ultimately, and why he ended up with such a low-grade collection of bozos and clowns at the end - people care about consequences, and they were increasingly horrified.

edit: none of which makes him any less venal, disgusting, or destructive. it just highlights that there was no plan. which is what anyone who was aware of his business career already knew. none of which, btw, dilutes the incitement charge. "I meant some other thing to happen" is not a recognised defence. people are held accountable for the predictable consequences of their actions, for one, not whether they predicted them, and he actively tried to mobilize people to stop an electoral process, irrespective of how they ended up trying to do so. so he's stuck with that. i just don't think that crediting him with a master plan is worth it. reckless negligence? yes. giving rise to violence? absolutely. etc.

(that said, we must all continue to call him a wannabee-dictator, just because it drives the flat-earthers nuts.)

capacity isn't material to determining responsibility. being incapable of driving doesn't mean you can't crash a car, and arguing that as a defence wouldn't work. if anything, Trump's lack of consideration for the impact of the position and his reckless and consistent abuse of it highlights precisely why he shouldn't have had the job.

i 100% agree with you that he's a troll that hacked the system, but having done so, any damage he did while in the system still lies at his door.

what i mean is that anyone who knew anything of his business career between, say, 1992 and 2008 was aware that he was in no way capable of executing in the role. there's never being a single piece of evidence that you could hang a hope on. and his consistent criminality over the same period, his complete lack of ethical standards, his gaming of every law he could, gave no-one any right to believe that he would adhere to standards suddenly on taking office.

a fraud, a crook, and a douche in the beginning, in the middle, and in the end. zero people have any right to claim to shocked by that.

He was an incredibly divisive president. When in recent history has the US ever been this divided?
The rioters and looters deserve to be blamed for what they did, but it would be silly to absolve Trump of all blame. The environment they live in has a big influence on the way people behave.
Erm, no. Unless he somehow managed to time travel. That divisiveness started a bit before Trump, the stage was set well before he came into the picture. It's amazing he could build a campaign on "Drain the swamp", considering what that swamp is, if it only started with him.

At the rate unpopular and sensitive stuff is being removed, documents were shredded, at best some of those would be extremely wild guesses. I was shaking my head again at the FISA issue the other day.

When you are POTUS you don't have that luxury (refer Thabo the Aids denialist for a local example)
Also refer to the FISA warrants and Obama ... then. ;)

I'm more than happy with that. But it needs to be applied uniformly then, not depending on whose party flag you fly, or as some tend to do, define it so that it absolves favourites.

Trump just happened to be a useful idiot to blame things on, to deflect from the underlying issues. Those issues where used against him even before he took office. He proved the media wrong. How dare he do it.

@ForceFate At least you are semi-correct. Somebody took the blame.

half-agree. :)

disagree that Trump is a useful idiot. Trump is blamed, correctly, for the things he did and the consequences of those things. and now, without the cover of the presidency, that long-deferred blame is going to materialise legally and with consequence. that's a good thing.

agree that having to do so distracts from serious underlying issues, only some of which lie with the Republican trend towards selling their soul to the lowest bidder. there are serious structural problems in the US, exactly zero of them are "culture wars" stuff, and they lie at the door of both parties.

So the GOP is arguably in a very bad state with him gone. They've lost the presidency, the house and the senate. If Trump ends up making his own party you can be sure he'll pull the worst of the far right to him + Ted Cruz.

And "the worst" are a surprising amount of the GOP supporters.

So maybe not much changes the next election around and the GOP remains "less" than what it was pre-Trump.

Lol.

Maybe Trump was a Dem plant.

I mean he was friends with the Clintons and that other guy back in the day... what's his name, oh yeah. Epstein.

And you know those Pizza Pedo Lizard Illuminati cultist types like them some long term 3d chess.

On the other hand, Bill was sleeping soundly during the speech, so I mean, of all the people up there (-1 on his way to Mar a Lardo) he might have the cleanest conscience cause the worst thing he has ever done (probably) was get a blowjob from an intern.

A very large verify of authors, mostly first hand accounts.
Throughout the world, many original sources have even been digitized and copied, mostly available in libraries and museums.
My point is that nowadays, things don't happen in secrecy anymore. History unfolds before our eyes, compared to 1000 years ago when only select few were privy to such information and transferred it to scrolls and such. Digitising scrolls and books doesn't change content.

It is a statement of dismay at your lack of proper attempt and slide into mediocre trolling.

I strongly suspect you are better than that.
Now you're projecting. Isn't that what you've been doing the whole morning?
