USB-WAN converter

I have been using a USB Pots ADSL modem and recently bought a wireless router. In order to set it up, the modem must be connected to the router.
The problem is that the modem has a USB terminal as its name suggests, but the router has only a WAN port. Therefore I have been looking for a USB-WAN converter, but couldn't find one. Does anybody know where I can secure such a thing?

Surely you should be able to set it up without connecting them?

How were you planning to connect them anyway?

I have to go with an instruction that came with the router. It says that the setup is according to the scheme: Internet-modem-(WAN)router(LAN)-(WAN)PC. As I said, the router has only 1 WAN and 4 LAN ports. Thus the router end of the cable connecting the modem and the router must have a WAN terminal, while at the moment it has a USB terninal.

But by "WAN" are you really talking about telephone jacks (RJ-11) ?

It sounds as though you need to purchase an Ethernet ADSL modem to replace the USB one. You can't use a cheap PC type USB to Ethernet converter as these require driver software on the PC to function.

Some people have managed to get Thomson SpeedTouch 330 USB ADSL modems to operate off a USB port of an ASUS WL-500gP router but this can be very difficult. See below for the details. Your router doesn't appear to have a USB port so I doubt there is any other option than to purchase a new ethernet ADSL modem or 4-port router.

a WAN port is not an RJ-11, if I remember correctly. The WAN port allows a cable modem/ ADSL modem to connect.

Yes, it is RJ-45. But as far as the appearance is concerned, it is the same as a Lan port and a Lan terminal does fit in snugly.
Yotch, the links you have suggested are too complicated for me to understand! as you have suggested, I have to buy a new ethernet ADSL modem or 4-port router. But what is the 4-port router? My router already has 1 WAN and 4 LAN ports.

Yeah, that's what RJ-45 means. It won't work as a LAN port, though.
What you need is an ethernet ADSL modem, which usually comes as a firewalled-(4-port switch/wireless access point) (this is effectively a wireless router with 4 LAN ports) and an ADSL modem. This will unfortunately mean that you will have bought the wireless router in vain. Unless of course you manage to find an ADSL modem with a WAN port output. I will see if I can find one for you and get back to you.
