Used i20 vs Fiesta

I'm looking to buy a car around R120k and the 2016 Fiesta has caught my attention. My friend recommends checking the 2016 i20. My priorities are price, fuel economy and reliability. I'm also a bit paranoid of the used car dealerships cause I'm in the Gauteng area so any advice on that too would be appreciated.

Main reason not to buy a ford for.
 
The Fiesta is not a bad car, the EcoBoost engines are brilliant.

Apart from the defective lock (which Matthew Parker can sort out for R250), I haven't experienced any other issue with Fiestas.

Being around friends with I20's, they seems to be very reliable and my one friend I20 is over 200k km with no major issues.

Actually thie yeari need to get SO a car and I20is on the option list too.

They are not. They are notoriously unreliable - even ford issuing a recall being issued on some in 2018. Ford in general is kark.

Ford models with 1.0 and 1.6 Ecoboost petrol engines after a number of cars had serious problems with overheating, which in some cases caused them to catch fire.

Yeah, I have to agree here, with regards to Ford. I have a 2013 Ford Fiesta 1.4. I have looked after it, done all the servicing at the correct intervals etc. It is currently on 170,000kms.

1) Front passenger door just stopped closing one day
2) I had to replace the water pump
3) Most recently, it was stuttering badly and I had to replace the ignition coil

Prior to my Fiesta I had a Chevrolet Spark and Aveo. Neither gave me a day's hassle.

But it won engine of the year how many times now? There’s a guy who’s pushing out close to 130kw on one of these little motors, don’t know how long it will last though.

I20.... I dont particularly like it I actually prefer the Ford but Hyundai supports their cars no matter the age. Old old cars still have all the genuine part available to purchase and if you ever have an accident or need part replaced taking it to a Hyundai approved shop means you will get genuine parts fitted as an approved shop is not allowed to fit pirate or after market part no matter what. They will even match the price of pirate parts to make sure that the vehicle is kept genuine. That is one thing i really admire about Kia and Hyundai and I'm working in the industry.

Also they don't get stolen or broken into like Fords not that that should be a deciding factor if you have insurance.

You're describing the older shape Suzuki Swift.

Don't let the age of the model I posted scare you off.

I had a Swift and it is an excellent car. Try to get a GLS model. It has a higher safety rating than the i20, comfortable seats, handles well, economical, reliable & just comes with more features.

The only down side was the small boot & resale isn't amazing.

I mean you're getting 6 airbags on the Suzuki, push to start and push button doors. That is a lot for 120k.

Oh yea & you're getting rear discs on the Swift vs drums on other manufacturers.
It isn't a big deal but it it those little things that make it seem like a better buy.

Whatever car you choose, try to get it from a known used car dealership. Too many dodgy dealerships with tempting prices.
