Useless Mweb Packages

So now that everyone is back in JHB the speeds drop like flies sprayed with doom! Im on the 4mbps uncapped with Mweb, I dont download torrents, i only use it to play online games. I have my own internet monitoring software which shows that ive never gone over 30gb a month, then give or take 5gb for my phone.

I get 12.3kb/s down and .40kb/s up on a speed test.
I've called them so many times last year before the whole of JHB left. During the holidays my speeds was great, the speed i pay for 400kb/s!

So much for their ' Gaming is prioritized on our network ' bullsssssss*it!


Do anyone know of an ISP which does prioritize gaming on their network? and for most of the contract keep to their speeds?

Sounds more like your exchange is congested. Try telkom's guest account and see if you still have the same issue. Or do trace to 8.8.8.8 and see how it looks ie:

Gaming doesn't require throughput, it requires a low, stable latency without packet loss.
Are you on the premium or standard uncapped account? The standard uncapped is awful from what I have heard.
Also, yeah check for exchange congestion.

EDIT: Also, how are you testing this? If you are looking at how much data your game is using, then it will definitely be that low. Games are optimised to use as little bandwidth as possible.

I'm on 6Meg Standard and my Xbox Live gaming on both XBOne and XB360 performs well. My understanding is that the only difference between standard and premium is the download threshold before throttling. Saying that, as Mweb do limit your download speed based on your package, I have a feeling (big thumb suck and no evidence to support this) the 6Meg packages are not widely used as the 4 or 10 meg. Maybe the contention is a lot worse on the 4 and 10 meg pools.

No, they have the same pool, just threshold difference. Can you not post a tracert when you are experiencing these issues?

Also include speed test results using the MWEB speed test and trace routes to mweb.co.za and bbc.co.uk

Please ensure the testing is done with one device connected to your router via cable and ensure that there is no active traffic running in the background

Yeah the thresholds are really low for an uncapped account. 110GB for 4mbps.

More than enough for most. That's a fair bit of streaming in a month/30 day rolling window (as an example). Of course, these accounts are not aimed at downloaders. In fact no MWEB accounts are - thank goodness for that.
