User selected DStv channel packages are being explored

Why do they always claim that they are just following "international best practice"? Who cares what other companies are doing overseas, why not innovate and do something that no other companies are doing. Typical attitude from SA companies.

Strange that they don't also follow the "international best prices" trend seeing how they like to compare themselves internationally ..

ps. And come on with the heading .. this is about as much "on the radar" at Multichoice as Julias has joining the DA on his radar.

Get Mweb uncapped and 4MB ADSL, get rid of DSTV and learn how to watch online TV, pull down Torrents (be it legal or illegal), watch the latest movies when you want, you will never ever get DSTV again. Oh yes, I am watching ITV1 (UK) worldcup rugby live, via a HDMI cable to my big screen TV. DSTV I think your days are numbered.

Try getting a laptop
Got a laptop. But when I enter my lounge, the last thing I want to do is fiddle and fart around with cables, changing the TV source, getting to the stream etc. I want everything accessible via a remote.

As soon as there is a decent media player capable of loading (and saving) user-defined streams, then I'd get it. If they're already out there then I'd like to know which ones :)

I will only take these

M-Net (101)
M-Net Movies 1 (103)
M-Net Movies 2 (104)
M-Net Stars (105)
M-Net Action (106)
Universal Channel (108)
M-Net Series (110)
SONY (113)
BBC Entertainment (120)
Discovery Channel (121)
Vuzu (123)
E! Entertainment Television (124)
Zone Reality (125)
SONY MAX (126)
SABC 1 (131)
SABC 2 (132)
SABC 3 (133)
e.tv (134)
SuperSport Blitz (200)
SuperSport 1 (201)
SuperSport 2 (202)
SuperSport 3 (203)
SuperSport 4 (204)
SuperSport 5 (205)
SuperSport 6 (206)
SuperSport 7 (207)
Discovery World (250)
National Geographic (260)
Nat Geo Wild (261)
Animal Planet (264)

They will probably have a sliding scale cost - so one channel for R200, 2 for R300 or something daft like that. They will still be milking it with whatever they come up with.

R25 per channel (10 channels and less)
R20 per channel (11-20 channels)
R15 per channel (21-30 channels)
R10 for more then 30 channels

And in other news: The SA government says resigning over wastage, corruption and inefficiency is on it's radar.

The problem is that with the current packages, most of the subscription fees are used to subside the sporting rights. Those Supersport channels probably cost a lot more than R25 per channel, so with 3 Supersport channels for R75 it wouldn't make any financial sense for them to offer it at that price.

All very vague.I wouldn't hold my breath.
It is interesting that they are even considering this though - has there been negative growth since they last increased their prices?Would love to see how their financials play out in the next financial year.
Personally my feeling is that unless you are a sport lover DSTV is a complete rip-off.So glad I cancelled although I have a running battle with my kids every day about that!!

Get TopTV. At least you can choose only the kids package for much cheaper.

Supersport, ESPN, all HD channels, all Discovery, NatGeo, all News (well Sky, BBC, CNN, eNews), Mnet. Haven't had dstv for a year and can't really remember anything else worth watching :o

Would be nice if MC moved a lot of channels online so you could subscribe that way and watch streaming TV rather than having to have a decoder.

Your continued ignorance towards customer requirements is why digital delivery over the internet (albeit legal or illegal) will eventually eclipse your business.
totally agree

Try and book ad space during the super 15 or curry cup finals half time and let me know how much they ask.
