User selected DStv channel packages are being explored

“It would greatly increase the monthly subscription fee even if fewer channels are selected. It conflicts with international supplier practices; it will also increase administration cost and make account administration expensive,” Alberts said.

Your continued ignorance towards customer requirements is why digital delivery over the internet (albeit legal or illegal) will eventually eclipse your business.

That can easily cost R600, for less than you're getting right now. I'm in favour of a variable rate of between R10-R40 per channel, depending on how much it costs them. Sports channels will obviously cost the most.

If they do this then they only channels I'll be choosing are the sports ones (and maybe a couple of documentary ones). Everything else I can source myself.

If they'd let me choose the following I'd be happy
SuperSport channels
Discovery Showcase
Discovery World
BBC Knowledge
NatGeo

For the wife
E!
FOOD
CRIME
Mnet Series

For the kids:
Boomerang
Cartoon Network

These are the ONLY channels we watch in my household. Why can't you let me choose these and I'd happily give you R350.

Why do they always claim that they are just following "international best practice"? Who cares what other companies are doing overseas, why not innovate and do something that no other companies are doing. Typical attitude from SA companies.

Sure but we have to be realistic they need to create incentive for people to pay for the premium bouquet at full price R550(because lets face it they want to make money which is fair). So they allow you to choose any channels at lets say R100 per channel. People like me who's disconnected their dstv because i don't want to pay fullprice R550 for only one channel(only thing i'm interested in SS1) because that makes no sense will at least now give them R100pm. Those same ppl might select a few more channels that kinda slightly interests them since they now have the option to do so and dstv might make anything from R200-R300 from a subscriber who now gives then R0 because he doesn't want to pay full price for 1 or 2 channels.

So if you're interested in lets say 4-5 channels you might as well pay full price and get lots of channels

More to the point, why don't they follow international best practise when it comes to pricing, annual increases (which are decreases internationally) or quality content?

IBIWISI.

More realistically they should allow us to move the channels that one can move the interesting ones to say 100-120. Browsing through channels is a hassle if some are in the low 100, 170ish, 250, 400...each with massive chunks of crap inbetween.
