Using B315 LTE for Fibre?

After playing with a B315 as `n general purpose router and comparing it to the Asus ones I had I would rather invest in a proper WAN capable router than re-purposing one of them.

@NN123: Do you have link LED light on port of the fiber box?
It should be on (or blinking when data is transfered). Connect cable to from the Huawei to the same port on the fiber box. Other ports are normally locked down by the operator.

Sounds strange... I would do the same as what sajunky recommend. 1) check the LED light on the fibre box to confirm your fibre is live. Get you Fibre provider to confirm as well (call them). Having ISP login details won't make the B315 work if the infrastructure/fibre to reach your ISP is not live. 2) once confirmed that the fibre is live indeed, check the LED light on the fibre box and confirm which LAN PORT on the fibre box is active. Normally LAN/WAN 1. 3) connect a LAN Cable from the fibre box to the WAN port of the B315 4) capture your ISP details again and resubmit/save (must be a PPPoE connection) 5) not sure if you have another router on your network handing out IP addresses to your network - if not, then let your B315 be that (DHCP on)

I had reset the router before I started the above process - just in case - to flush out any potential clashes. That's all I changed (have no sim card in) and it's still working 100%.

Ah great thank you guys! It's working :) Pretty embarrassing but it appears that the other LAN ports were disconnected.

You shouldn't be. If you were told, then yes, but even service support didn't tell you that. Glad you got it working.

Hi there everyone :)

I have just had fibre installed by Octotel and am trying to set up my Huawei B315 router with it.

I have done everything as suggested in the above comments - set the Ethernet settings to PPPoE and made sure all LAN ports are connected as well as plugged the LAN cable into the WAN port. When I did the Ethernet settings I put the activation key I received from my ISP as the username and entered in the password for my router as the password. I have only received an activation key from my ISP and not a username or password. Do I need to contact them about getting a username and password? Or is what I have done right?

If it is right, then I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong because the Ethernet connect just keeps saying failed and every time I try and go onto a web page it says it is not a secure webpage and won’t let me do anything :/

Thanks for the help in advance :)

I can confirm that the B315 also works on the Vumatel fibre network.

1. remove the SIM
2. Connect LAN/WAN port of router to one of the Vumatel CPE/ONT ports
3. Configure Ethernet > Ethernet settings > Connection mode > Dynamic IP

You do not have to setup PPPoE with settings they supply, if you plug something into one of the Vumatel CPE/ONT ports and your device is setup to receive IPs dynamically you are good.
