Using NZB's - like having to join a cult

Services like DownStorm and put.io. I have accounts with both but I still find the nzb route better for my purposes. I find put.io quite useful if I want to stream random stuff, but sitting with 4meg line I can only really get mediocre 720p streams to play smoothly. I am however using it quite a bit now while I have no disk space available.

oh i thought you guys were using the torrent-to-http for downloading. http downloading sounds like a good bet since those protocols are never shaped.

Been using torrents for years and haven't received a letter ...yet! Never used peer-blocking software either. I [sort of] played around with the Usenet (?) a while back but lost interest pretty quickly. The whole automation side of things sounds interesting but for someone (like me!) that maybe pulls an episode of one or two linux series a week with an occasional linux movie here and there, it would be a fairly pointless exercise right now.

I guess the novelty of uncapped interwebs wore off for me so after realising I had downloaded terabytes of [-]media[/-] linux distros I would most probably never consume just because "I could", I decided to rather only download what I was positive either my family or I would actually use. My 200-300GB p/m has become 30-50GB p/m now :erm: :o ...and most of that is probably YouTube :/

So for *my needs* torrents are still doing a decent job and as someone else said above, if it ain't broke...

And once I a decent VOD/streaming option is available (and feasible!) to me then I'm quite sure my occasional torrent use will cease.

A proper SmartTV that actually did what a "smart" TV was supposed to would be > than ^

I still think my link to that XBMC Add-on > ALL.
Better than torrents, nzbs, heck... even better than copying from a buddy's Drive.

It just works.

I just want to switch on my 'smart' TV and watch whatever I want to over my wifi via the interwebs. No media servers with addons containing terabytes of automated downloads or having to fake my location using proxies etcetera. And I shouldn't have to pay a small fortune for this "privilege" either.

But yeah... being in SA and what not . . .

I'm definitely gonna try that XBMC addon though :D

:D I think you okes have managed to get the OP more confused than when he started this thread ;)

that's exactly what it does. ;)
works fine on my 1Mbit line!

I also do this, to make it even more easier to use (for the SO):
Set the options to sort by URL (first) - set it to list sockshare FIRST.
Then set it to sort by VIEWS (secondary)

...you might need to play with the "reverse results' options and whatnot, but when it sorts it correctly, you can have it *automatically* play the first result, without even asking you which server/provider to use.

Cool... me looks forward to trying it out. I got as far as downloading XBMC 12.0 ... baby steps :D

Torrents were performing terribly for more than 2 weeks, and i decided i would use NZB's.

I must admit this is real mission to get going. I ended up registering at more than 5 sites where NZB files are hosted. On all i couldnt download 1 file.

Lets no go into how many where there wasnt even the option to register - especially the local sites.

There are a lot of smug NZB users on this forum, going on about how great they are, and how anybody who doesnt use the same must be crazy. But for the average guy, its not easy, and usually comes with an additional cost, never mind the ass kissing needed to get an account where NZB files are hosted.

Torrents work much simpler, and probably why its more popular.

A lot of guys slating me for being lazy and not trying to find out the basic things etc etc. Read my post again - getting NZB's is probably the biggest mission.

I tried a lot of different sites for which i had to register for the privileged of accessing, and even then no luck. Then there are the ones which are running, but there is no option to register. Which points to the thread title - "like having to join a cult"

I have scanned through almost all of the posts on this thread - I haven't come across one which helps in terms of actually finding NZB files. Maybe i am guilty of not looking hard enough or trying or i am lazy. In which case help a brother out.

Are you in it for series or movies?
If series, Sickbeard comes packaged with 2 index sites, which work for 95% of current series. No signups required.
