Using NZB's - like having to join a cult

A lot of guys slating me for being lazy and not trying to find out the basic things etc etc. Read my post again - getting NZB's is probably the biggest mission.

I tried a lot of different sites for which i had to register for the privileged of accessing, and even then no luck. Then there are the ones which are running, but there is no option to register. Which points to the thread title - "like having to join a cult"

I have scanned through almost all of the posts on this thread - I haven't come across one which helps in terms of actually finding NZB files. Maybe i am guilty of not looking hard enough or trying or i am lazy. In which case help a brother out.

Definitely the bold part, I specifically have given you at least 2 website where you can download .nzb files free of charge, you only need to register, and it is even on the first page of this very thread. Actually it is post #4. You are a lazy piece of **** indeed, not to mention lying in this post I am quoting.

Are you in it for series or movies?
If series, Sickbeard comes packaged with 2 index sites, which work for 95% of current series. No signups required.

Series - will try sickbeard. Was using Alt.binz

Guilty as charged!

You'll be glad that you put in the effort and spent a few hours reading and dicking around :) you're more than welcome to ask questions if you get stuck because we're not a "cult".

Ok cool, apologies for calling you lazy and all that, I was a little worked up for no good reason at all.

Really hope you enjoy using usenet, it opens up a new world, and once you start the automation part using sickbeard+sabnzbd you will love the extra free time you gain by not having to manage downloads and sorting files yourself.

@Ecco Just PM if you have any questions. Welcome, strap yourself in, I suspect you might just like this ride more than you might have anticipated.

Easier than SB/CP... don't think so.

Faster? Nope, torrents are definitely not faster than Usenet :p

Torrents don't really work as well as Usenet on Couch Potato... see here

Usenet = Speed. Security. No Letters. No Seeders. No Ratio's. No Uploading. Automation.

Again, the automation has nothing to do with Usenet, it's separate programs doing it. It's like saying a VW Beetle is a better car than a Ferrari F40, because your girlfriend gave you a BJ while driving it, nothing to do with the actual car itself. Try using a "normal" Usenet client and then get back to me. You'll feel like you're back in the 80's.

Couchpotato works perfectly with torrents, Sickbeard unfortunately not but that's because the programmers are simply too lazy to implement it properly. It's still a good renamer though, and I actually prefer to add my torrents manually since I can then have a consistent quality.

I use a VPN server, which means no uploading, no letters, security, always full speed and most importantly of all, no getting cut off by my ISP because I bypass their shaping with SSL.

OK, then (at best) they're a tie. I'd still argue a slight advantage to NZB's due to the issues you mention Sickbeard has with torrents.

- SSL is a choice, turn it off.
- Setting up a VPN to bypass uploading is arguably at least as much work as setting up a Usenet-friendly environment.

What I'm getting at is, once you've gone through the 2 hours of reading/setup (and no-one's denying that there is that learning curve), you're generally very happy on the other side (as most of the Usenet-pro comments in this thread can attest).

It just uses a web interface, it's as easy as setting up your own torrent client at home.

I wasn't saying people aren't happy, just that they weren't comparing apples with apples.

A BJ in a Beetle. Man that air cooled motor MUST be conducive to epic hummers.

Look, if someone really don't want to use usenet, heck who are we to force you to do so. Someone's got to keep torrents alive!

As for your point. Automation may not be specific to usenet, but it works best with usenet. Heck, they all started out with usenet support only, and later on added in initial support for torrents. Thus, for a while the point would be valid, that automation was specific to usenet.

The time saved for me, using sickbeard + sabnzbd + xbmc is lovely. All I do when I get back home is, turn on tv (using logitech harmony remote it turns everything else on as well including set av receiver to correct inputs ect), go to TV Shows and t hen select "Recently added shows". Compare that to, go to website, add torrent, then once downloaded, rename and move and sort. Ok maybe you set up rss feeds, so a bit of the work was done for you, but I still find Sickbeard and Couchpotato to be just a perfect fit for me.

One point you can't argue however, is I don't need to upload any data using usenet, one thing I don't want to do with torrents. Sure I can limit my speed on torrents, and remove the torrent as soon as it is done, but that defeats the whole point of being part of torrents. So instead of being a jackass torrent user, I rather stay with usenet where I don't have to irritate other downloaders by doing a hit and run on the torrents.

As for SSL...haven't had a single complaint from my ISP about that...

Cool.

My point is that people who use Usenet, 99% of the time, have tried torrents and have made a conscious decision to use something else.
I'd be surprised if the number of people who have gone the other way (NZBs=>torrents) is anywhere close to that. (Note, I'm saying "less people", not "no people")

Therefore, I reckon, most Usenet users have broader experience from which to make judgements whereas the majority of torrent users would have to speak from ignorance (again, "majority", not "all" ;))

Edit:
As mentioned above, whatever floats your boat.
Personally, I like waking up in the morning to 5 emails on my phone telling me that the latest HD series that aired in the US is now neatly packaged on my HTPC for my viewing pleasure.
I like hearing about a new show, logging onto my Sickbeard, searching for it on TVDb, and having it automatically download all past, present and future episodes, with about as much effort as a Google search.
Yes, there are trade-offs (old shows being one of them), but, on the whole, it'd take something massive to send me back to torrents.

Its pure laziness.

Just over two years ago I had no idea how downloading from newsgroups worked - now my entire process is automated, I don't spend hours each week looking for torrents to download, hoping they're seeded, etc.

If I want something, I put the name into Sick Beard, Coach Potato, etc...and it does all the work for me.

Sorry, whose lazy??!!

Ok...this torrent cult is BS... I thought I'd try it for an already screened version of Linux.Arrow.S01E12.720p.distro... found one - added it... 36 hours later, only 40% even though its been sitting at 100+ kb/s. All this because I can't find a working version on newsgroups.
