Using NZB's - like having to join a cult

100+ kb/s for 36 hours... you sure that's just [-]episode[/-] version 1.12 and not the entire [-]season[/-] version 1 :p

Yip... only 1.1GB.... always been my problem with them, and its the highest seeded one on PB.

I think that might be the problem. Usually the newest versions even though well seeded are ones where everyone has like 90-something % of the file and the bastids who eventually have 100% say thank-you-very-much-and-goodbye and stop seeding. Normally if you wait a day or two you don't have this problem imo.

Its three weeks old... :-/

Yeah torrents for new big files have terrible speeds, a game can take 3 weeks on a torrent but 16 hours on usenet

Anyone here use NewsLeecher?
I find it's the easiest to use, and the feature to search Usenet quickly without downloading any groups is awesome!

Indexers are great, but searching the entire usenet at once is just easier
(most indexers don't index every single thing available)

Ok...this torrent cult is BS... I thought I'd try it for an already screened version of Linux.Arrow.S01E12.720p.distro... found one - added it... 36 hours later, only 40% even though its been sitting at 100+ kb/s. All this because I can't find a working version on newsgroups.
Have you tried grabbing Arrow.s01e12.Vertigo.720p.WEB-DL.TB.mkv from newsgroups, I didn't have any issues with it. Fail that, join us on DC++ and grab it there. Just google for Circle of Fire.

Yeh... it doesn't download... think it got nailed... it was out when Telkom was down for a week.

I'll give DC++ a try... not wasting my time with that torrent.

Heh. Now DC++ is like joining a real cult.

Our local cult is: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/229805-CIRCLE-OF-FIRE-DC-HUB_JOIN-NOW or http://facebook.com/circleofire
But I see their website is down.

If you share +- 50-100gb, there is a bunch of public cults where you can find eps, though I only join them on and off, there more leechers than I can stand.
list are:
- dchub://toonheads.no-ip.org
- dchub://techgeeks.geekgalaxy.com:1411
- dchub://mychillhub.com:2007
- dchub://myhub.se

Once you share 3TB+ data, and you hang out on those for over a week, you should get your first invite to a private cult . Once you are on a private cult , you get invites to even more private cults . I am now at the point where I don't join more, because I already have access to plenty of data. It is also the reason why I am not on the public cults anymore.

Currently with 1 local cult, and 3 international cults.

ps. If you join the local cult, which I know is a massive mission, but I am sure you are up for a challenge, I am more than willing to open an extra slot for you.

Don`t know why it has to be one or the other.

set up sickbeard + sabnzbd + nzb-matrix last week before work after reading this post on this thread:

Let me start by saying, you are an idiot if you think it is not that easy. I say this with the utmost respect, because I have friends who I told about it, and they got started with much more advanced setups, without me helping them at all, ala sickbeard+couchpotato ect.

With that out of the way:

Getting started shouldn't cost you a cent.

1. Register at these for free:
- nzb-matrix.eu
- nzbplanet.net

2. get a nzb client, best is to get latest version of sabnzbd, however if that doesn't suit your fancy, and you are into having a nice gui but world of pain with broken downloads, go for grabit or altbinz

3. Use the server supplied by your ISP, either news.is.co.za news.saix.net news.afrihost.co.za ect

4. Only if you see the light, you will know it is worth it to spend a small monthly fee on a better news server like tweaknews.

There you go. And all that you could find by using google and this forums' search feature.

It literally took 10 minutes to get working, afterwards I spent an hour after work to get sickbeard and sabnzbd to work together, to tweak the categories and post processing, and tell it which shows to keep updated. Can`t believe I haven`t done this before, works great to keep series current.

Still prefer torrents for other stuff though... for now.

Arrow.S01E12.720p.HDTV.X264-DIMENSION-NewsHost-2032

just got it via tweaknews.eu , only usenet server i used to get the files.

sabnzbd ran some repair thing , but working 100%.

WEB-DL has the following over 720p HDTV
- higher bitrate (so better quality, even though still 720p)
- Always 5.1 vs randomly 5.1 or 2.0 audio.
- No network logo constantly showing on the episode

The downside is, you wait a little bit longer before it is released.

Its pure laziness.

Just over two years ago I had no idea how downloading from newsgroups worked - now my entire process is automated, I don't spend hours each week looking for torrents to download, hoping they're seeded, etc.

If I want something, I put the name into Sick Beard, Coach Potato, etc...and it does all the work for me.

Got the same setup running on my Media/Download PC with XBMC. Has been such bliss since I got the massive 10 minute set up done as well :p I just turn my TV on when I get home from work and BAM, new series is there without me having to do a thing :D

I installed DC++

But I also bought a block on Tweaknews.eu... see if it works.

pro news okes wont like this, but the cold truth is that it IS old tech. does that mean it doesnt work the best? personally I dont think so. I still prefer NZB over torrents, but the other cold truth is that DMCA take-downs are an issue.

One has to have a paid server(if u want full speed), and at least one or two block accounts to cover your ass. There are a couple of shows that are DMCA.com which is quite irritating. You find that all the people who dont have DMCA issues dont touch these specific shows.

automation is lovely, but nothing more irritating than getting home and you got S01E01-E06 with E02 missing because of missing blocks. Now you gotta sit and wait for 2GB to download...

pro's and cons both sides of the fence :)

I prefer the automation with the once odd missing episode and only fix that when needed.

But at the same time, I for one do download shows that get DMCA'd, yet I never have problems with them like some. Stay away from the usenet servers who have automated DMCA systems in place, like Astraweb, stay mostly with European based usenet servers, like Tweaknews, and you will be mostly fine.

That is is old technology has never bothered me, I like old tech that actually just works.

For everything else I don't get on usenet, I nowadays use DC++. In fact, you get many things on DC++ you will never find on torrents or usenet.
