Using phones to cheat in exams

Phones?? Pfft. how about putting images of the text book pages on ipods!! I mean its just an innocent ipod lying on a desk... They were caught...

Doubtful.

Imagine your cellphones are blocked by a classroom next door. You have a heart attack. Someone close to you tries to phone medical services but fail to get through. Panic ensues. Maybe you survive but with brain damage since you got resuscitated 2 minutes later than you could have.

Or a fire... how about that?

Just because you couldn't find a reasonable way to enforce cellphones in a classroom?

Chances are, if you are blocking cellphones, GPS or the likes, you are up to no good.

I know many who have cheated. They have been penalised in various ways, including local exclusion, but never nationally excluded.

It's not the University of Pretoria that made up to rule, there is some kind of national authority that determines it, all Universities have to comply, just like all Universities may only take students with certain pre-requisites for bachelors degrees (For example only students with matric exemption, etc.)

It depends on the department and lecturer, I don't want to say anything in public but if you're caught in the wrong department you'll face the disciplinary comity for just copying a practical where in others you may have to go so far as cheating in a Semester Test or Exam to face disciplinary charges.
 
I was in an exam where TWO people were caught in one session - you'd think after the first time, the second one would have cut it out.
