Using VC sim in Cell C speedstick

Hi all,

I want to take advantage of VC's new 20gig offer but I only have a Cell C modem.Can I use the VC sim in the Cell C speedstick automatically but just inserting it in the modem and browsing straight away or do I need to install software/change settings.Please advise as I need a simple solution ( do bear in mind that I am a reletive newbie when it comes to these sorts of things so go easy on me would you?) Thanks guys.

It will work in the cell C modem. Are you currently using the "connector" Cell c dashboard....the horrible little black screen that is so awckward to use? If so, try to rather use the Vodacom dashboard or download the MDMA dashboard available on this forum.

Cell C uses *99# as its dial-in number, I think Vodacom uses *99***1# or something similar so you may need to make that change.
I am sure someone more knowledgable than me will chip in here to advise!

Correct, no change in settings, also application do not lockup to ISP.

If the speedstick is made by Huawei and you therefore have the Cell-C-branded Huawei 'Mobile Partner' dashboard, that works extremely well whatever network you use, and can also double to keep track of your data etc. Configuration should be automatic if you create a profile for Vodacom.

Otherwise as mentioned earlier, MDMA works nicely too.

Thanks for the info guys..seems to work just fine with either the Cell C dashboard or MDMA.Just a quick one , though, for anyone whose using the 20 Gig package from VC..I downloaded data with standard prepaid airtime to test out the network speed and I got a stable speed of 2mb/s which wasn't great but was better than what I get from other SP's.I then purchased the 20 Gig bundle and noticed that the speed had suddenly become quite erratic with a max speed of 1.2 mb/s. Just speculation here but I hope that VC isn't somehow throttling the speeds on this promotional data offer..any thoughts?

My gf has just visited the vodacom store in tygervalley to enquire about the 20GB special - their VERY unhelpful salesman told her that she needs a VC modem in order to access the 20 GB special (we are currently using cellc):mad:. Glad to see that this is not the case.

What is with the crappy/dishonest service though?:mad:

Sorry to hijack your thread...but will the black huwaei modem work with 8ta 10Gig promotion. My cell c 5 gig is ending this month!

ok so I went to 2 stores (Autopage and increadible connections) this weekend to ask if I can use a vodacom sim card with a cell c modem (MF190) and both said no :wtf:

I have used VC sim cards with a number of Cell C modems and the other way around !

The MF190 supports UMTS 2100. So they dont know what theyre talking about. Yes you can.
