Vaal Dam levels

we're not even halfway through the wet season yet...

Sterkfontein is at 87% still...

Water restrictions are infrastructure related. The dry spell was just a convenient scapegoat.
The issue is, the wet season is predicted to be a little drier than normal again.

I read somewhere that they actually predict lower than expected rainfall in the coming months...which I find hard to believe, but hey, the internet never lies right.

True as that may be, I prefer erring on the side of caution. Are the water restrictions really hurting anybody?

Well the surcharges on use of more than 20kl per month regardless of property size are a bit ridiculous and unfair
Lost chunks of my lawn due to bring unable to water.

I heard that on the news, they quoted some SA weather muppet.

Weird ... I recently remember hearing / reading that we should brace ourselves for another 3 months of rainy weather .

edit ... here we go ... was in a statement regarding road safety
"We appeal to road users to observe safe following distances; drive with caution as they approach small bridges and other areas to avoid flooding as the South African Weather Bureau predicts more rains for the next three months," Sanco spokesperson Jabu Mahlangu said, pointing out that this may lead to an increase in drownings.

Hence the "which I find hard to believe" part. All I've heard is that we should brace ourselves and then someone at SA Weather says different.

I heard on numerous occasions that they were predicting abnormally HIGH rainfall for DEC, JAN and FEB.

Unfortunately said muppet may be right :(..

It does look like the expected La Nina isn't forecast to stay around for much more than a few more months.

Then parts of KZN are going to remain screwed. The dams there are still running really low.

Unless we get lots of rain in the next 2 months, yeah parts of KZN will remain screwed..

We can only hope that El Nino doesn't return anytime soon so that we can get normal rainfall for a year or two...

Yeah, unfortunately.

The muppet comment was more because of my general distrust of anything anyone remotely linked to guvvament says.

Oh, even if the muppet is right, its still a muppet.

SA Weather don't really cover themselves in glory when their website is so shyte.

Some of those areas will need rains of biblical proportions to save them. How is it Richards Bay experienced such wet weather for about 4 months and yet the rivers and dam there remain so low?
