Vaal Dam levels

Vaal over 55 percent this morning and Grootdraai just started overflowing...

I heard on numerous occasions that they were predicting abnormally HIGH rainfall for DEC, JAN and FEB.

So there is a bit of a debate about the drought vs water vs regions in SA. A drought is abnormally less rainfall for a area.. and is primarily a problem for farmers and in water catchment area in the rainy season. The rainy season depends on where you are in the country..

So Gauteng & most of Sa east of Bloemfontein is considered summer rainfall area, i.e. rains in nov-feb where as west of there, e.g. Cape Town is a winter rainfall area.. so come November they know if they in crap.

Now granted you know how much reserve you have, carry over etc it's begs the question.. are some municipalities cashing in and blaming drought for waters losses in their system? I think so.. it allows them to push up fees

Anyway.. guess we neeed to see how recovered the damn levels are in feb. I think water losses by municipal pipes are still leading reason for loss.

Yip lack of maintenance and response to leaks is definitely a large contributor.

Good weekend for the Vaal.
Friday 54.54%
This morning 59.15%, inflow of 750 cumecs.

Was PISSING down in Pretoria over the weekend (Saturday). Didn't check the meter but was heavy rain for about 40 minutes to an hour. Pools of water everywhere.

Did it rain again somewhere this weekend, or is that still inflow from the rain from 10 days ago? Because in Centurion we basically had almost nothing for the last 10 days, but I am hoping somewhere else had a nice surprise visit.

EDIT: Just saw your post was before the weekend.

This would have been rain from late last week for this weekend's surge.
