How full is the Vaal Dam now?
he levels in the Bloemhof dam have dropped to 88.7% to make room for all that water heading is way from the Vaal dam ...
Serious? As of yesterday it was at 94... they've released a fokton of water![]()
Now that we're finally back on topic...I saw your pics of the (hyacinth?) infestation at Harties - was that recent? Reason I ask is that when the gates were opened a few weeks back, there was a considerable amount of it sitting near the wall - not to ask dumb question, but is there a way of flushing it out via the gates?

No, there is a catchment net around the sluices about 50 meters from the wall. However some might get through, but just about all of it is blocked by the catchment net.
Ah, cool, thanks. I just had a vague memory from the last big floods with some one on the news from Kruger Park joking that their water weed problem was now Mozambique's problem and was wondering if there was a way to 'flush' them out. But I guess that would just transfer the problem locally.
I'd imagine its a sizable mess if the gates get clogged. So probably not worth it risking an attempt to flush it.Yes that's current.
The gates are schoopid. They don't open to the surface of the water, but beneath the surface - so the hyacinth won't get flushed out unless they drop the level quite a bit.
I don't see why they don't do it tbh.
/edit and that net.
I'm posting from my phone so I hope this comes out okay.
This was just South of Deneysville at around mid-day today - water levels are looking very good
