That & MB stick shift boxes are notorious for being notchy & vague.

I would have described a gearbox as being notchy OR vague, not both at the same time?:o
Either you can feel it's through the gate and in gear, or you can't feel the gates and hope it's in gear.

Silver C180, 2005 model. 200k KM. R60'000. Looks clean and neat, but I am just not convinced by those reflectors at the back...could indicate the owner doesn't trust the rear brake lights or has had someone drive into him from behind?

It's a requirement if you drive in Zimbabwe. Owner is Zimbabwean or traveled there at some point.

– Reflectors: Your vehicle needs red reflectors on the rear and white reflectors on the front.

I just hated the feel of it... Also didn't like the clutch.

Not sure about the reliability aspects but I'll definitely buy an Auto Merc if I ever get one...

None. That's why I used the word "renowned", as opposed to "in my experience",

So I owned from citi golfs all the way to the golf 4 petrol and diesel, Vw, Toyota ford Nissan and Subaru all vehicles I owned.
I have owned 4 different Subaru models.

I also do between 70 000 and 100 000 km in a year. every single car I sold / traded was under book due to high km/s. The Subaru did not get less than any other car. An 3 -4 year old forester still fetches 400k. An 2016 Audi Q3 350 k on autotrader. So no idea where you get the poor resale value from.
The running costs on my fiesta ( possible fridday manufactured car) was more than my Subaru wagon.
Kia is still the cheapest maintenance car I owned. And the Subaru comes in second place for cheapest to maintain.

Thanks for the input, that's interesting. Agree with you re Kia maintenance, have had a Hyundai or two and they were truly cheap in terms of running costs.

Low volume selling mid range cars tend to have poor resale value though, so I'm surprised to hear you did well with the Scoobies. I had a couple of Saabs, and the resale was tragic. Knew what I was getting into when I bought them though....

Can only dream :(
