I wonder how an instrument cluster dies?
my cluster died on my 2001 e46 - just out of the blue, started acting all funky then a few mins later blank...

How did you fix it?
Replaced with a used one I bought from marketplace
Was actually fine to use for a few weeks, but found myself constantly filling up at the fuel station as the fuel guage also didnt work lol
Had to do some basic coding using PASOFT so the replacement unit would read everything correctly - diesel/petrol, kmh/mph, mpg/l/100km, sedan/wagon
Mileage is 60k lower than my original but it does have the bmw tamper dot - which doesnt bother me
From what I googled, you can swop (de/resolder) over the main chip to a new/used cluster and everything will work 100%, but I still need to find someone to do this
