Hi All,
I recently upgraded my DSL line from a 10MB/s to 20MB/s,
I Also have an Afrihost 20MB/s VDSL Business Data Package.

However my modem is still syncing on ADSL2+ Modulation,
I have asked for Afrihost to Load the VDSL Profile and they where in return told by Telkom it has been done.

When Changing The Modulation on my Router to VDSL it no longer Syncs.

Can someone please confirm the settings, I have an ASUS DSL-AC68U Modem.

I have also attached my Line Stats when it syncs on ADSL2+ Modulation:

Any Help would be appreciated.

Clearly Afrihost didn't tell Telkom to change the modulation to VDSL or it wasn't done properly.

The Response I got from Afihost after repeatedly asking for the Modulation:
"I trust you are well.

As per previous mail, your modulation has been updated on Telkom's side and our side,
also we see that there is no fault on the line or connection.

If the router does not connect on VDSL and only on ADSL2 then it is possible that the router either does not support VDSL or the router is faulty.

It would be best to test with another router that supports VDSL or take the current router back to the shop to have it tested.
"

However this is a new router with fully upgraded firmware.

when switching to VDSL i get the following Log Entry Error :
Aug 1 00:19:41 pppd[490]: Timeout waiting for PADO packets
Aug 1 00:19:47 WAN Connection: trigger the PPP connection via 10.112.112.112

20mb on adsl 2+ will work not a problem nothing to stress about.

ADSL 2+ works ok,
After Upgrading to 20mb/s everything was great and line was syncing at an acceptable 18mb/s with an 10 on SNR, a week in Telkom / Afrihost took the line down to 12mb/s with and the SNR is now at 24, [i am happy with 18mb/s on 10SNR]

I guess what i am trying to achieve is to confirm whether or not i will have better speed on VDSL Modulation.

Your modulation settings have not been changed, had the same issue. Telkom have no clue. Rather send a pm with your line number to telkomza to resolve. Good luck!

Can i ask you for the settings on the Administration - DSL Setting Page ?
Specifically with regards to the VDSL Profile?

I have Adjusted My Settings According to your working VDSL line Settings, with no luck, Setting The Auto Up Sync Setting Only Syncs up till ADSL2+.
The only setting that is different is the VLAN Setting is the WAN Setting, and the screenshot is a bit distorted, could that setting have an impact ?

attached the new Settings:

I will contact Afrihost, but nobody seems to know what the hell is going on, every person I talk to has a different story.

your modulation settings have not been applied correctly.

Thank you for the screenshots, your help is highly appreciated.

I have applied the settings, the line syncs but only up to ADSL2+ but does not make a connection to the ISP, when using the VDSL (PTM) Settings.

I am calling Afrihost Again (Sigh) and Problably Telkom After that, i have also sent TelkomZa a PM.

Clearly Afrihost didn't tell Telkom to change the modulation to VDSL or it wasn't done properly.

This was indeed the Case...

After Sending a PM to @TelkomZA The issue was Resolved!

Pathetic Service From Afrihost, Call Centre Agents Where constantly telling me the Modulation type has been changed, And telling me the line does not support VDSL Etc etc...

I can however confirm the SNR Ratio is Higher, The Speed is Faster, The Upload is faster and The Line Attenuation is better on VDSL.

My Conclusion is that People in first line support are incompetent when it comes to VDSL, and would rather have you work on a ADSL2+ on 10mb/s where they are comfortable.
