Vehicle advice needed.

Even though it is quite a lot, I recently learned the Mini Cooper also uses a CVT transmission. And they charge you about R105K for a new unit.
 
A word of advice to anyone looking to buy a used vehicle with a CVT transmission. Make sure you take an extended warranty which will cover the transmission in full. To my knowledge, most extended warranties will require the mileage to be below a certain point if you want full cover.

The new CVT transmissions are apparently quite reliable. But to be honest, this is my last CVT transmission.

As I stated before, the CVT on the Murano is a First Generation unit, and they have improved by Light Years since then.

We introduced CVT into our ranges in 2008 and to date we have only had problems with two units, and both of them because Bush mechanics fiddled with them.

The modern CVT as found in the Subaru range is bullet proof, and incredibly reliable.

Thank you for the information, and even though I am quite skeptical, I will do some research.

One thing I will give CVT transmissions credit for, the ride is really smooth. Even under heavy acceleration, you cannot feel any gear changes because there are no gears to change.

It's truly an amazing car! The ride is perfect - my attachment to it is what caused me to fix it, love the colour too:)

Don't get me wrong, I really like this vehicle. But I'm looking to tie the knot soon and would rather try and avoid surprises like these.

And I do like the color as well.

I totally agree... These surprises are never nice, no matter how much you have in the bank. Nobody likes spending unnecessarily :D
