I make the fee work for me

I always end up getting more out of it.

Last car scored me new set of tyres as it caused the car to vibrate, so that fee basically paid for tyres and few other things.

The only part of this I have a real problem with is that they try to sneak it in at the end. They are entitled to add as much costs and bs. to the price as they want to, but then advertise the car at that price.

Recently tried to buy a new car advertised at R 199 999.00 Asked them for a written quote after the test drive and it was almost R 25k more.... Ridiculous, it puts the car in a whole other price class.

the warentees are a bitch and kind of forced to take them now days as some banks want it on but when you try claim it does not work and there is always excuses as they do not cover this or they do not cover that. To me it is a waste of Money we were also forced to take it on our Audi and with the ECU on Steering Colum faulty they say they do not cover as it is a wear and tear item which I find BS. I do not see it as a wear and tear item

Yip R9000+ for mechanical warentee, then they added some paint and dent repair warentee for like R6000 then 'delivery and on the road fees', it came to over 20k total and in the 2 years we had the car we used none of warentees. We currently car shopping as the wife wrote the car off about a month and a half ago and we finally got the insurance payout which was pathetic to say the least. This time we dont want any of that crap. If something breaks, my old mans a mechanic so he can repair it at a fraction of the price. For instance my Chev's ABS pump buggered out a few months ago, the car also has one of those BS warentees, part alone is 25k from Chev (no one else has stock of a new one) minus labour. Cost me R2500 for a secondhand pump from LOPEC spares and 10 minutes of my old mans time.

Took delivery yesterday. All the bs fees were dropped

But my word that dealer principal was one big douche bag. No greeting, no nothing.

Then i discovered a chip in the windscreen and refused to sign the acceptance form till they fixed it.

4hrs later i left the dealership finally.

This was hyundai roodepoort. They wont see me again

That’s daylight robbery. Even the luxury car dealers don’t get to that amount. Don’t pay that. Those fees should never be more than R1500 imho

What dealership?
They charge "on the road fees" and other BS. tell them you wont take it. 9/10 times they will lower/drop it.

You are confusing two things.

On the road fee i.e. license disc. R1500 is ok

Delivery fee is a bs fee which they add to the invoice for fuel/new oil and other made up kuk. This is just an attempt at padding the invoice. Dont ever accept this on an invoice

Theoretically "on the road" is what they do to get your car on the road. like fuel and oil lol.

I've just been given a confusing quote on a new vehicle - as mentioned above, there is a price advertised for the vehicle which I would assume is the total. But it's not. They offer a discount as it's on a "special" (about 15k) and then add another 8K in other fees.
What's confusing here is that "delivery" is free, but there is another "delivery fee" which I presume is all the OTR inspection stuff. What the hell is Pro auto care? And who asked for safety film?

Pro Auto Care, I would assume it’s something like a protective coat for the vehicle’s paint or something similar to that.

Safety film would be smash & grab film on the windows.

They load stuff like that on the quote, hoping you will accept it. But it is not compulsory, so you can decline it.

I would assume delivery fee is the normal admin/on the road fees, and the “delivery” with zero cost would be in the case where they actually deliver the vehicle to your house (lots of dealerships offering nationwide deliveries)

somebody has to pay for the salesmen shiny shoes, and the balloons and the free snacks you get in a little plastic jar,
and the parts that come in the manufacturers branded box, even if the part itself is made elsewhere, you literally pay for the cardboard box at 100 times the cost of the part, like a spark plug

sometimes I wish we could buy cars online without all this BS, like you buy a fridge off takealot.
I mean you could buy from webuycars, but yes the cost you see does not include the admin fees and VAT in the price you pay

Delivery fee is supposed to include petrol so that you can test drive and get home, which should never be R4588. I see they did not include licensing so ask them to give you the breakdown, licensing should not be more than R2k.

Safety film is fine, totally reject that autocare off hand. At the end of the day everything must make sense to you.

Thanks for your response @TheChamp . They did quote for the licensing separately - one dealer was R800 and the other R1200.

So is everyone saying I can reject everything except the "delivery fee" (i.e. the shiny shoes fee)? They say it's to do with "inspecting" the vehicle etc. As it's been pointed out above, you don't buy a monitor for example for 10K and then get told they need to inspect the thing for an extra random amount!

The ridiculous delivery fee is a scam, it's just too many people accept it "because it's the bank paying" and now the dealers have become entitled.

Paying for the petrol is fair, but there is no preparation that costs R4500, so that would be the first thing I reject from the quote.

Compared to flying down and driving (petrol) back up. Also possibly accommodation along the way if you don't want to get tired and crash your new car - yeah I'd say it is reasonable.
