Hi there.

I have this weird issue. so I installed 8GB of ram to because with my original 16gb (4x4GB) corsair vengeance I had some BSOD issues so decided to go grab my dads 8GB kit to test.

Now I have this issue where when I run some types of games like crysis3, thief, BF4 etc etc it will tell me running out of memory.

This is what I tried.

1. Running only 4GB to see if it's not the memory itself but it's not doing the same with all sticks.

2. Running single card and another r9 270x same issue.

3. Installing older graphics drivers 14.6 going to try 14.4 now.

4. testing from another pc and only installing 4gb ram same issue.

5. re-installing windows 8.1 64bit

Ok I know testing 4GB might do this but why on 8GB of ram and normally happens when changing graphics ptions or in bf4 only changing network smoothing factor it will crash and tell me out of memory. When it crashes my pc is only giving me 2.2-2.6GB usage when I have 4GB ram installed and with 8GB about 4.5-4.7GB memory usage when I have 2x4GB installed. So weird.

So what could be the cause? I don't see anything that it could be.

Have you tried running Memtest? The memory may not be faulty, but may be unstable in its current configuration. i.e, voltage or clockspeed might be off. 1.65v RAM doesn't work properly in SB IB and Haswell, so make sure the RAM you're using is rated 1.5v or less.

I have the following kit x 2

as you can see it's already 1.5v Also i checked the msi z97 gaming 5 and that memory is supported

@OP, did you analyse what the BSOD dump says?

You can view the dump with this:
http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html

The bug string provides some information on what caused the bluescreen.
Sometimes the string might say something weird, but googling the bug code usually tells you what went wrong.

Yes i did. It only blue screens when i have my memory at 1600mhz on 1333mhz I tested and i never had any blue screen for about a week. Like i said Blue screen is solved now. Only issue is that when I install 4gb - 8gb and playing some games it will crash when changing some graphics settings. Almost like a memory leak. Some people get memory leak in windows 8.1

I found this on the net and will try that aswell

Not crashing, but my brother's Windows 8.1 laptop gives a low memory error when you unlock the screen after leaving it for a while, but only Outlook and Firefox are running. Once it even did it without any open applications. Incidentally, his laptop also has 8GB of RAM.

huh ok maybe there is some sort of memory leak in windows 8.1. LOL I tested out mantle again in bf4 and man used almost 12GB of ram when I installed 16GB. Without mantle it uses about 5-6GB.

I'm not talking the usage of bf4 but the whole pc. So weird. I have an asus tablet here with windows 8.1 and 2GB ram but it's only 32bit and it's fast and never giving me issues.

Keep posted with results please, would like to know how this turns out, incidentally one of my laptops also has w8.1 with 8GB ram.

So tonight I got home and guess what. NDu value in registry already set at 4 so yeah. but so far with 16GB ram never had a single crash tonight. Even on 1600mhz speed. all I did was enable xmp and set ram voltages to 1.53V and so far so great. played BF4 tonight and it also works. Total memory usage when playing is about 5-6GB. A bit much but at least I have 16GB

If it's messed up voltages, are you sure your PSU isn't being erratic?

Maybe my memory is not stable at the current voltages. Ah well will see in about a weeks time. if it's still running everything is solved for now
