So I was wondering what ever happened to this service?

Most smartphones have an option of making a video call via the phone network. The only cost incurred is the cost of the call- no data.

Why doesn't feature get any light? It's very reliable when under 3G and doesn't have those 'Skype' video calling problems like delays and video freezing due to poor data speeds.

CellC and TM does not have this feature? What is stopping them from launching it? Last time I checked Voda and MTN supports it?

I used this service recently when video calling my brother in the UK. The video was brilliant!
I had tried using Skype (which was useless) or my data connection wasn't to lekker, so was just about to give up when i saw the Video Call option on my phone.
The cost was about R3.36 per minute. (R47 odd rand for 14 minutes).
I would definitely try and make use of the Skype option before trying the video call again as it could get expensive!

Ja i know...another thing its so convient -as simple as making a normal call. No hassle of signing in or having a different account.

MTN charges R3/min. Voda is the same as voice calls.

Any idea why other operators are not implementing this feature? @CellC

Its very expensive...... Maybe just use it for short calls..... I never really know how video calling actually work. Does it use data for the video and the network for the audio or does it both video and audio go through the network..... Could be that it uses a lot of resources thats why its not that popular?

used it for fun a few times, it is quite expensive , and I'm assuming it uses some mix of data / voice as it only worked in 3G or faster coverage areas - cheaper to use skype or similar via wifi
