Hi

I'm in matric and I need to do a feasabiltiy study. I decided to investigate the feasability of creating a video converter. In any case, I was hoping that I could enlist this forum's assistance in doing a bit of research. The program would create an elaborate gui which would be deeply tied with the functionality and use of the command line program ffmpeg. So if you are interested in video conversion, etc, please answer the questions that follow:

1) What sort of functionality would you like to see in the program?

2) What codecs (input and output) do you think would need to be support in the first edition of said program?

3) How would you like to see data handling done in the program (things like output directories, data such as bitrate of the input, output parameters, details on the progression of the conversion, etc)?

4) Do you think that adding audio conversion functionality would be worthwhile?

5) Do you think various modes (or levels) should be used in the program (like beginner, advanced and expert modes where users could gain more control over the parameters of the conversion) and if so, how would you like to see them implemented?

6) Are there any suggestion that you might have for the program?

7) Are there any issues from other video converting software that you would like to see addressed in this program?

To anyone who does reply, I really do appreciate your assistance in my research. Please note: THIS IS JUST A FEASABILITY STUDY!

I have to agree with thisgeek - there are numerous studies out there, as well as many video conversion packages in the market (retail and free).

Is the feasability study related to a school project or is this a personal study? I admire your willingness to take on something like this, but feel that you would be wasting your time in the long run.

It's just a feasability study, as in I'm only looking into it for a project. I doubt I would actually do it. I just wanted to get the opinions of people who might actually use this kind of software.

Also, IMHO, most retail packages for video conversion are terrible. They are either too convoluted, don't explain things properly, don't give you enough control or just don't do what they say they will. That's why I use FFMpeg (and sometimes in combination with AviSynth) exclusively for my needs, which I compile along with external libraries myself.

Anyway, this is just a questionnaire and I need to do it myself because it's for a project. I can't use someone elses work. It's called plagiarsim.

Have to agree.

If you can make a nice gui frontend to ffmpeg it would be great.
