Viking wants a fast Droid - Beep Beep

A note on the Samsungs, they do become slower as they age. I have an A7 that's super slow to update an app after it's downloaded. Downloads are fast but then there's a queue to update. It's like some design flaw where it continually uses the same storage that just gets slower instead of moving data around in order to use faster storage.

This is way above my budget, so something cheaper will be better.

Must be double the speed of a Samsung A25.

Lots of storage.

Big screen. I use it for BIMx and House Plans and Walk-through.

Big battery.

Big ram.

It must just be lekker.

You aren’t going to get a business capable smartphone for R4k, not new or second hand.

Seriously though, can’t you buy a higher specced phone on your credit card and pay it off over a few months? At R12-15k you will get a lightly used or refurbished S series or Apple, and I guarantee you, if you go for the Apple, it will serve you well for at least 3 years, if not longer.

To be fair I wouldn't call R8k goedkoop. It's outrageous that a phone can cost as much today as a car cost 30 years ago.

My phone carries my whole life including bank cards and loyalty cards etc. etc.

Well, 30 years ago, phones could make calls, and not much else, and a cell phone/car phone was not something most people could afford. Relatively speaking phones have become a lot cheaper over the last 30 years. But business orientated high end smart phones are seriously packed with tech, and what they allow you to do, is where their real value lies.

That said, thanks to the collapse of the rand, and massive inflation, phones, like most other things, are much more expensive in SA than what they should be.

You will see a flagship phone, like the Motorola 8200 cost R3300.00 in 1994. If you consider an average inflation of 5% over the last 30 years (I would argue the real number is way higher, regardless of what statsSA says), then prices should double every 14.5 years. So, that phone should realistically cost R13200.00 today. For R13200.00. But realistically, you can buy a phone that can outperform that Motorola for about R350 at pep stores today.

R13k gets you a pretty reasonable smartphone… so, when you consider it like that, and consider the rand collapse in those same 30 years, flagship phones are actually pretty competitively priced

Well, he has told us exactly what he needs the phone to be able to do, and a used or refurbished iPhone would solve tick all his boxes, and then some.

Buying Chinese junk like Xiomi or Poco, or Axx Samsungs and then whining about performance because he has some objection to a pre-owned iPhone is a bit daft.

Where do you think those "premium" iPhones are assembled? You can also add India and Vietnam to the list...
