If I had a time machine, I would hop on back, and gently explain that the change over would need to be done more intelligently. A gradual shift of power may have prevented all this.

Yes, it was wrong... but apartheid can not be used to condone crime or can it?
Slavery was wrong but it can not be used to condone racism or can it?
The moral of the story condoning wrong with wrong is wrong and that happens all over the world...

By their own actions the ANC give vindication for the racists.
 
I heard a rumour - probably true - that when the "new management" came to Eskom in 1994, they threw away all the power station plans from the previous management because it was "apartheid" plans.

LOL this is zimbabwe number two, if you fail to realise it now and keep holding on to that belief things will get better then you will end up like those last few still stuck in zim. Its only thanks to apartheid we have been this lucky thus far!, food prices spiraling out of control, petrol prices through the roof, blackouts beating the economy down with a stick!.

Yes you can teach a monkey a few clever tricks, problem is when he sees a banana his priorities change and he forgets about his performance.
 
To offer something in mitigation of this power issue the ANC at the time had very valid 'other' priorities and they all centered around uplifting the masses who had been oppressed for so many years in an unequal system.

At the time money was not easy to come by, the country was in a very poor financial state and there was no tax surplass iirc and the tax base significantly smaller than it is now.

I think it is safe to say that they prioritised to deliver to their voters first, too show that they would follow through with election promises.
Noble, but still no excuse for not listening to the experts and ignoring all the warning signs.

The ANC have now (all by themselves) undone a lot of the good work that has been done in growing our economy.
This is going to have a massive negative effect on our economy, might even put it in reverse gear.
I still don't think the ANC are capable of taking this crisis seriously. They are to inwardly focused.

They did nothing except borrow from the future. A stupid idea, no matter how it is made to sound noble.

All they have done is build an ivory tower on a layer of silt.

Sorry - no mitigation as far as I am concerned.
