Yesterday according to netmeter and HMP I used +/- 15MB will according to the balances I got back from the USSD commands and on V4me I used +/- 70MB  This after only browsing this site and downloading a 4MB file. The file was downloaded using the Orbit download manager and finished in under 2 minutes becuase even though I was getting crappy speeds on normal browsing I got consistent speeds of 50-60KB/s on that download.

Any suggestions, V3g?

Edit: The figures being billed have previously been consistent with Netmeter and HMP/ HMC figures.

I have had the same experience. For some reason since Saterday I have used more megabytes than normal & this just not make any sense to me.
If I go OOB on prepaid Vodacom is going to take my R1 credit.

I also have not received any sms warnings for near ending of PPDB ?? Can anybody advise at what value on a 500meg I should get a sms??

@sky.akash Which USSD do you use to get a balance ??

People read but they dont really understand what they are reading. They are to scared to ask. Want to get home and use the new toy etc.

Its easy BLOCK from day 1

I love this point to bits and this is where it all starts.

The good news is that you will not be prevented from accessing the Internet once your monthly bundle is depleted. You will simply be billed at the applicable out-of-bundle data rate (e.g. R 1.20 per Megabyte). But the customer is not explained what a Megabyte is and how quick a Megabyte is used and at R 1.20 it is 6 times (@.19c) more expensive than the inbundle rate. Now that is the good news. What about the bad news, there is none I suppose

Got my copy of Yebo News yesterday. The "good news" for Top Up and prepaid bundle users is that the oob is R2/MB on any of the 3 bundles purchased.

An update for those that are interested!! VC contacted my friend and have agreed to credit his account!!! They have said this was done in "good faith" and is not the norm. I know that our Local service providers (some are posting on this thread;)) have worked very hard on getting this situation resolved for my friend!!:D

Agreed!! But it is up to him now!! As I said they wont do it again!!:D

Hee-Hee-Hee! I should think not... Getting a bill like that once is enough for a lifetime, huh?

Glad it is sorted!;)

...Despite this signed document, Vodacom has been known in hundreds of cases, to credit the client anyway, in good faith. ...

...Please provide proof.

Proof enough for me;)

Problem with overcharging on Data bundle by vodacom

Has anyone else here had a problem with suddenly being told by Vodacom that they are way over the gig limit and owe an enormous amount, and if they don't pay within 24 hours they will be cut off?

This has happened to my fiancee who is being very carefull not to overuse his data connection because money is an issue at the moment. He has not recorded his daily usage, but has been sor tof monitoring itas said and is quite shocked because he is so sure he wasn't over the limit.

Can there be an error on Voacom's part and if so, what recourse does he have?

See this thread.

Kidnap him and his notebook and run NetLimiter Monitor on that notebook, followed by anti-malware software - chances are the original malware or whatever caused it, is still hiding on the notebook, unless of course it was a P2P app left to transfer his money into oblivion - have a look to see if he has any P2P apps installed...

I think he sold his old notebook to some unsuspecting fool(shame:rolleyes:)!!! He just purchased a new HP notebook!!! Don't know where the old one is!!

Ummm, ok, so there is actually no chance of finding out what really caused this problem - until the new owner connects to the internet and finds his way to MyBroadband & posts something like 'I bought this notebook from some guy, and it keeps sending on the internet connection'.

@Padded Mouse, did your fiancée recently buy a notebook from some rich guy?

:D

@bruce000. My offer is still open. Try and get the old notebook and courier it to me and I will evaluate it.

Anyway good to hear he is of the hook. But unfortunately we are all still hooked.

I think i know what happened to bruce000's friend's laptop and that high bill.

I do believe it was malware/trojan downloader. I have theory as to what happened...

So are you going to tell us then?
Since when are you in Gordons Bay?!

Since when are you in Gordons Bay?!

I've been is GB since... well since i moved back to CT(1year ago).

Will tell you in a moment, just wrapping up some stuff!

The argument was that bruce's friend's Anti-Virus was up to date, and it didnt pick up any virus/malware etc. This is debateable, and i'll tell you why...

Yesterday(out of my own stupidity) i got infected with the works. Virusses, malware, trojan downloaders, you name it. As my Anti-Virus was up to date, i did a full system scan and found the lot of them. Cleaned it, and those who could not be cleaned deleted. I even went to safe mode to take out the tough ones.

Went back into Windows, everythig seemed fine. I connected, and left it idle. Again, take note, my AV was up to date.

After about so 30mins, i accidentally checked my usage(yes accidentally as i moved my mouse over 2computers icon in the taskbar) and was shocked! 30Megs GONE! In 30Mins! And what did i do? I left it idle!

I disconnected. Did another scan(with Ad-Aware) and found some more. Deleted that, rebooted, did a scan in safe mode, rebooted, and got back into Windows(my thought here is, i got rid of everything right??)

Connected, i watched my usage like a hawk. AV still up to date, no virus/malware warnings. Upon inspecting the usage, i found that whatever i was infected with, caused me to download about 1meg per minute...

Bruce's friend was using his weekender at the time(as bruce said his friends uses that when his PPDB runs out). So the OOB rate would be R2 a Meg.

So it hit me last night...

1meg per minute, that would be +- 60megs per hour. 24hours in 1day, so that would be 60 multiplied by 24, giving me approximately 1500megs per day.

Bruce's friend left it connected for 3 consecutive days. That 1500 multipleid by 3, giving me about +-4500Megs for the 3days.

Taking into consideration the OOB rate of R2 a meg, multiply that by 2 and you get a bill close to 10k.

So my argument is, that although his AV was up to date, it doesnt mean he was NOT infected? Like in my case, i thought i was clean, but i wasnt!

Thats my theory. Does it makes sense?
