Visa application

You need more than just a SA passport to get into the UK though.

The issue is rocking up at UK border control and then applying for asylum. There was no advance approval visa before the person got on a plane, at least with the passport being scrutinised in advance there is time for “Lebogang Ndlovu" from Bangladesh "SA" to be caught out.

Well, as of today - you won't even make it on to the plane with just an SA passport.

Oh, of course, but it's cases like the above that caused the ball ache that is now in place for SA passport holders.

Yeah, that's a fair point. From a UK perspective I get why we're on the naughty list.

Apologies for barging in on this convo — but haven't applied for a UK visa since about 8 years back — and am now a bit confuddled.
Have the TLS appointment on 5 June. Departure on 27 July, so should be fine?

Didn't opt for all the added services options, barring the courier-fee.
So, I have to upload my documents myself, in advance.

(Silly) question: Do I upload all my supporting documentation (medical cover; flights; accommodation; travel insturance; conference details), and submit before the TLS biometric appointment? Do they need to see all of this at the appointment, to proceed with the biometrics?

Or is the uploading done separately, AFTER the appointment — since I'm doing it on my own??

Also — UK websites make mention of a TB clearance certificate? Is that applicable for SA??

Submit before the time, but be warned, download everything you need, after submit, all is locked.

It used to be possible to transit at Heathrow without a visa, if you were flying onwards to USA/Canada.

Is this still the case ?

It's easier if you upload it first. I'm not sure about medical cover though, we've never had to supply that (even though we are covered through our normal Discovery policy).

nope, BA in BA out, 1 hour on that airport.

So are you saying that I do need a transit visa, or not ?

I do have USA/Canada Visas, and the plan is to fly BA Joburg to Toronto via Heathrow, don't know what the transit time will be at this stage.

This was certainly possible a few years ago, just don't know if it is still the case, and I get conflicting answers on Google.

Yes, you should be fine. Processing times are around three weeks. So you have plenty of time.

Upload all of your documents on the TLSConnect site. You will just need to print out the checklist and take that with you to your appointment.

There they will take your prints, photos and passport.

No need to submit flights or hotel details. They’ve specifically said they don’t want that info.

No need to prove medical cover.

TB test only needed if you’re going for more than six months. In that case a visitor visa is not suitable, anyway.

I have applied 4 times and currently waiting on my 5th visa. Should be ready next week.

As long as you have a US or Canadian visa AND your flight leaves Heathrow before midnight - you do not need a visa.
