Vista Service Pack 2 delay

Vista sucks Donkey Balls! :p

j/k.... nothing like starting the flame war in the second post.

Interesting though how quickly this service pack is coming out after the first one.

Ironic... cos it proves that the OS needed massive re-working... but good cos it will improve Vista even more.

I wonder how much of Windows 7's research helped in the making of this Service Pack? :)

Microsoft released a beta of Windows 7 in early January this year and is likely to ship the final release in late 2009 or early 2010. Which means that many hardware makers will be caught between sticking with Service Pack 1 machines and holding out for Windows 7 or investing in getting their hardware up to SP2 spec, which many may be reluctant to do.

this makes no sense?

surely Service Packs fixes things (OK, mostly), and do no raise the hardware requirements?

LOL

LOL !!!! Sad but true. :)

The writer may have been confused and meant "stick with their XP machines". This makes sense as Windows 7 is supposed to run better on lighter hardware than Vista.

For a change, the whole "I'm not upgrading to Vista" clan had a good point. It seems that the sentiment has been the same regarding upgrading to every new major operating system release, but with Windows 7 so close on the heels of the Vista release, even Microsoft must be torn between devoting resources to Vista or Win7. Personally, I'll definitely be waiting for Win7 before upgrading from XP.

some might have argued that windows 7 is vista service pack 2 . . .

:p

They, of course, would be wrong.

Been running SP2 for a while now and it made little to no difference to the problems I see on Vista (unresponsiveness, slow file copy, etc.)

According to the documentation I saw, SP2 is mainly a roll-up of the updates since SP1.

I know this is sort of besides the point, but today I installed XP SP3 on a pc so old it would make a donkey cart look like a F1 contender. The PC was just as slow after the SP, not that I use the pc ever. But SP's don't need no upgrading. SP is the finishes to fix the problems and update whatever can/should be updated.

I have fixed at least 2 pc's this week with weird problems that should be straight forward to fix(drivers not installing, ect) by installing SP3. So yeah, in theory, SP2 should make Vista usable. It made XP a half decent effort at an os back in the day, so let's hope it makes Vista a viable solution: I will, cos 99% of the people whose pc's I fix run M$, so as much as I don't like it, maybe it will make my life easier.

I only use Vista because of 64 bit and Aero, but it is a damn resource hog, no SP will fix that.

Can't wait for Windoze 7!

I'd suggest reading this post about the Vista SP2 changes. Personally I've found the SP2 beta to provide little performance improvement, although its not expected across the board, and its proven to be immensely stable and of a very high quality.

As for performance improvements, download the Windows 7 beta code and you'll be pleasantly surprised at the under-the-hood performance improvements. In particular watch this video by Mark Russinovich of SysInternals fame.

Sticking to my windows xp till 7 hits. then i might be tempted to upgrade. will wait and see.
