Vista Support

BIOS is a feature of the PC hardware you are using, which means that you need to visit the support area on the website corresponding to the PC hardware you are using, look for your particular hardware, and see if there is a BIOS upgrade available - compare it to the BIOS version displayed when booting up, follow the BIOS manufacturer's instruction for upgrading the BIOS [if necessary], alternatively take it to one of the manufacturer's service centres and get them to upgrade the BIOS for you - maybe get them to check the memory at the same time.

Thanks ic,

salmo, the BIOS (Basic Input Output System) is the very core of your computer and is the interface between the hardware and the operating system (XP, Vista, etc.)

What we suspect is that your BIOS is not 100% compatible with Vista and is not driving some of the hardware correctly.

Typically the hardware manufacturer (HP) will bring out a new BIOS you can upload onto your system. But if you're not comfortable, rather take your system in. You do stand a chance of killing your system. Not likely, but possible.

But first check on HP's site for your laptop and see if they support Vista.

Thanks V3G & ic, the laptop is less than 2 months old and was sold as being Vista ready, so it should be supported. For this reason I'm doubtful that the BIOS is the problem but will talk to HP and see what they say.

That's good new's, the 2 month thing. Maybe post the exact model number and I'll quickly look on HP's site for you.

Happy days.

Not sure what it's called, there is no name with the version that I received from them, just "Vodacom 3G firmware update", a text file with instructions and the drivers which I copied into the Windows system32 folder. It requires an XP machine to update the firmware on the E220, once that's been done it installed normally. I'll contact the guys at IC to find out where they obtained it from and post the location here.

I'd disagree, it's taken some time to get everything running but I wouldn't go back to XP after having used Vista for the past few weeks, it's great. I had no problem installing anti virus (AVG) but wasn't able to install (the free version of) Zone Alarm, I have read somewhere that there is a version that is Vista compatible but the Windows firewall that comes with Vista seems much better than the previous one, so far so good anyway. The biggest problem in my journey was the e220, now solved, and Quick Books which is the only item that I have yet to get working :-(

I see so much of the E220 here has anyone had any luck with the E620?

I got my E220 working under Vista. For those of you still trying to figure it out:
- uninstall any VMC, VMC Lite or Mobile Connect software you may already have tried
- update your E220's dahboard with the Hauwei firmware available here: http://www.huawei.com/mobileweb/en/file/download.do?f=6717&ctype=1
(E220 HOSTB106D02SP00C03 (Normal) (15521 KB) 28-Feb-2007) Which is firmware version 20.11.06.02.00.03
- Plug it in to Vista, which should now recognise the CD-Rom, and give you the optioni to autoplay. It will also install the drivers.
- Install the VMC Lite RC (which vodacom3g hooked me up with), and you're good to go (probably after a reboot).

It worked for me, and I got HSDPA speeds. Problem is the VMC Lite seems to be unstable and crashes after a couple of hours. (Error 10013, I think). Once it does that, you have no choice but to reboot since the process refuses to terminate.

I'm going to try out the VMC 9.1 RC later to see if it is more stable than the VMC Lite I'm on.

Hi Guys,

I've been following this thread with interest, and thought I would try and update my E220 today.....

I upgraded the firmware and dashboard using the files on the Huwai website, and that all went ok.

However I don't know the settings to use (ie all the dial digits, username, password etc) for my provider (Vodafone UK) in order to use the Huwai dashboard.

VMC (9.1) will see the USB modem now, but cant connect to Vodafone UK (RAS error code 633)

I think maybe I need this new VMC Lite ?

Can someone email it to me please - [email protected]

Thanks ! here's hoping !

E220 and Vista

I use a HP Pavillion laptop with Vista and just received my E220.

What is the official why to get my 3G modem working. I dont want to do any trick and install/delete/reinstall software.

Is there a way to update the drivers on the USB modem so it can automatically install on all Vista computers.

I've seen the sticky - just need teh lastest official way.

OK, by trail and error I found this way. Least painfull and work like a dream.

No need to install any other software. Use the Huawei dashboard you just installed (named: Mobile Connect). On the Dashboard>Network Connection Setting: Create new profile, and change authentification nr to *99***16#

Leave everything else as is and save. Now on the dashboard just click connect and you're ready to go.

Thought I'd better test this Vista / E220 scenario, so I loaded VMC 9.1 on my desktop running Vista Ultimate, plugged the E220 in....and it all worked. So I've not had a chance to try all the fixes.

Best we keep a log here in this thread for other forumites to reference.

Vodafone problems on Vista

Hi... Can someone please help me, this is driving me insane!!

I've upgraded to Vista, installed the new Vodafone software (9.1) from their site, but when I run VMC I get a Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library error that pops up with the following, "Buffer overrun detected"... "Program:...\Vodafone Mobile Connect\Bin\MobileConnect.exe"...

If I click "Ok" to this error message, it closes VMC down and I can't run the internet. If I leave it alone, it stays in the background, but I can view internet pages. Does anyone know how to fix this??

Also, I don't get usage stats, or upload or download speed indicators, or sms function. Again, if anyone knows the solution to this very irritating problem, please respond...

Thanks,
Marek.

Is this number for vodafone uk?

Also the user name and password in the RAS connection, what should they read?

Hi all,

For those of you still having issues with installing the E220 on vista, i managed to get it all right using the same procedure as listed in this YouTube video (which seems to have recently popped up)... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8VI6Q4cmvM

I also managed to get VMC 9.1 working the e220, but i downloaded the version off the vodafone site, since the one on the vodacom site seems to be a release candidate, not the final version? (you can grab VMC 9.1 from http://www.business.vodafone.com/site/bus/public/enuk/p_vista.jsp)

Hope this help a bit for those of you still having issues...

WOW!! Great post! Has anyone else tested that this works?
