Have you tried the suggested BIOS upgrade?
I will certainly try but would appreciate some assistance in knowing where to locate such a BIOS upgrade and and how implement it.

Have you tried the suggested BIOS upgrade?
BIOS is a feature of the PC hardware you are using, which means that you need to visit the support area on the website corresponding to the PC hardware you are using, look for your particular hardware, and see if there is a BIOS upgrade available - compare it to the BIOS version displayed when booting up, follow the BIOS manufacturer's instruction for upgrading the BIOS [if necessary], alternatively take it to one of the manufacturer's service centres and get them to upgrade the BIOS for you - maybe get them to check the memory at the same time.
But first check on HP's site for your laptop and see if they support Vista.
Thanks V3G & ic, the laptop is less than 2 months old and was sold as being Vista ready, so it should be supported. For this reason I'm doubtful that the BIOS is the problem but will talk to HP and see what they say.
That's good new's, the 2 month thing. Maybe post the exact model number and I'll quickly look on HP's site for you.
I'm so bakgat, finally managed to get my e220 working. I spoke to the guys at Incredible Connection at Cavendish who gave my the firmware update and drivers. I installed them and am up and running again.
Happy days!!!
Glad to hear it! Which firmware update and drivers was that, for everyones info?
9.1 does support the E220 on Vista.
We also have a VMC-Lite (E220-only) version for Vista. Still in RC but if you PM me an e-mail, I'll have it mailed to you.
OK, by trail and error I found this way. Least painfull and work like a dream.
Do as Hydrofire said:

- update your E220's dahboard with the Hauwei firmware available here: http://www.huawei.com/mobileweb/en/file/download.do?f=6717&ctype=1
(E220 HOSTB106D02SP00C03 (Normal) (15521 KB) 28-Feb-2007) Which is firmware version 20.11.06.02.00.03
- Plug it in to Vista, which should now recognise the CD-Rom, and give you the optioni to autoplay. It will also install the drivers.
No need to install any other software. Use the Huawei dashboard you just installed (named: Mobile Connect). On the Dashboard>Network Connection Setting: Create new profile, and change authentification nr to *99***16#
Leave everything else as is and save. Now on the dashboard just click connect and you're ready to go.
