I guess so, it was the only one I could find that is 5000iu and it has a good reputation (I researched it a bit before buying)Thank you. That seems quite expensive.

I don't know if it's placebo or not but I feel a definite and noticeable change in my mood for the better. If I forget to take it for a few days, I wake up feeling really grumpy and out of sorts, really pessimistic about life and anxious about the future. I've learned to recognise that it's related to my vitamin d level. After taking one, the next day I feel so much better, more content and positive about life and as long as I keep taking them that mood prevails (with the normal ups and downs). As I say, it could be placebo, I've no idea but it works for me. Physically, I don't notice anything - I only started taking it based on my annual blood tests which showed me to be deficient, and on a prescription from my doctor (not that you need a prescription, of course)Have you noticed any improvement in your health from taking it?

Question: why would anyone who lives in Africa need a Vit D supplement? Standing outside is free.
You'd need to take well over 20,000 IU for weeks or months to get into the toxic range.Agreed, but there are exceptions. My wife has MS and needed to up her Vitamin D levels for a short period. Now she tests for Vitamin D annually.
Taking Vitamin D without testing is also not good as it can be toxic.
Not so simple. Even in South Africa the conditions aren't that good as we are relatively far south. Australia is even worse. As a general rule the body can only make Vitamin D effectively when your shadow is shorter than you. In the summer that's only a few hours around midday while in winter for most days we can't make any.Question: why would anyone who lives in Africa need a Vit D supplement? Standing outside is free.

This is from Vitamin D Council (no idea who they are but they have an informative website)Not so simple. Even in South Africa the conditions aren't that good as we are relatively far south. In Buenos Aires, you can’t produce vitamin D in June. In Cape Town, you can’t produce much vitamin D between mid-May and August. If you live as far south as the bottom tip of Chile and Argentina, you can’t produce vitamin D April through October! If your skin is darker, these windows are even longer by a month or two.
Live in Johannesburg? You can produce vitamin D all year round.
I saw you mentioned that earlier, will definitely check that out when I need a refill!I get mine from my local health shop for R150 - same brand 5000IU.
Sure but to make enough it would need to be in the hour around midday. Even well out of winter it would be only between around 10 and 2. You can measure this yourself by sticking a pole in the ground. Ironically these are the hours the medical profession has told us to stay out of the sun and use sunscreen. This is from Vitamin D Council (no idea who they are but they have an informative website)

How often would you take that?
Does not state what type. Prescription is usually ergocalciferol which isn't as effective and more easily toxic.
