Vitamin D supplement ?

I don't know if it's placebo or not but I feel a definite and noticeable change in my mood for the better. If I forget to take it for a few days, I wake up feeling really grumpy and out of sorts, really pessimistic about life and anxious about the future. I've learned to recognise that it's related to my vitamin d level. After taking one, the next day I feel so much better, more content and positive about life and as long as I keep taking them that mood prevails (with the normal ups and downs). As I say, it could be placebo, I've no idea but it works for me. Physically, I don't notice anything - I only started taking it based on my annual blood tests which showed me to be deficient, and on a prescription from my doctor (not that you need a prescription, of course)

I’d say this is a placebo effect as although low Vit D is linked to depression it’s not such an acute effect.

It clearly states it’s calciferol.
How is it more toxic unless you don’t monitor your levels?
Ergocalciferol or cholecalciferol? Ergocalciferol (Vitamin D2) is plant based and it's been known for a long time that Vitamin D levels quickly drop after stopping to take it where Vitamin D3 stays for months and up to half a year. It's also more likely to show toxic effects despite not reaching toxic levels.

I'm not talking about depression though, I'm just talking about feeling down, being grumpy, bad mood. Depression is something else

As a general rule the body can only make Vitamin D effectively when your shadow is shorter than you. In the summer that's only a few hours around midday while in winter for most days we can't make any.

I am Vitamin D deficient.

Any suggestions regarding how I can get my dose of the D?

Pre- tests were more than 2 years ago and it was less than 12, can't find my tests on the lancet app for tests between 2014-2017.

This is my test done in Jan 2019, usually do a full blood workup in Jan every year.

Which tests are included in the blood work you go for and how much does it usually cost? I went in to Lancet I think because I wanted to get a better idea on my health state. I ticked a bunch of boxes and they quoted me like R6k.

Needless to say I didn't go for it. I'll probably see a doctor and ask what the recommended check ups are but I'm curious in the mean time to hear what you usually have tested and how much it is.

f it does end up being R6k I would pay it to have a better view of my health state though.

Agreed. I definitely felt "better" after I supplemented.

Money making scam. Next year they will say those pills do not get absorbed and you must take some other tablet that you won't piss out.
Just get your ass outside in the sun and eat more oily fish. Pilchards in chilly sauce and salmon is great. Not sure if you get wild salmon there but do not have butterfish. You will be embarrassed for 3 days as the oil cannot be absorbed by the human gut.

Derp post is derp.

A vitamin D test doesn't cost that much. There's two but any lab should know which one to test for as there's very little use for the other one. You may also want to test for cholesterol to see what effect it's having in your body.

Also if you ever have to test for B12 the correct test isn't B12 but Methylmalonic Acid (MMA) and Homocysteine which should be low. Doesn't work though while you're supplementing.

Couldn't get my usual Vitamin D. Had to settle for something else at the last minute. R877 for 240 days. Would usually cost me that much for a year and a half's supply.
